I've played New Vegas for a while, and I was wondering, is a Melee only run as feasible as it was in FO3? The enemies now have the armor effects, which seemed to make using anything other than a gun a bad idea, and it takes a while before you get any armor piercing fist or melee weapons. Should I just stick to guns? And if a close range only character can be decent, anyone have any good chracter builds?

I advise you to get a Melee or Unarmed weapon with a high critical hit rate, and bonus damage on crits. I've used those to take down whole attack squadrons of Giant Flying Radscorpions.

I won't check the Wiki, so I'm not sure, but I think you can pick up the Bladed Gauntlet pretty early. It has a boosted critical rate. Boone's beret gives a critical bonus, and an injured veteran in Novac will teach you an Unarmed move to knock down your opponents.

Hand to hand and melee get ridiculous damage if played right. As in 1-hit-from-a-ballistic-fist-to-the-face-killing-an-alpha-deathclaw ridiculous. Unfortunately, to get all the best perks melee and h2h need to be trained side by side.

It's easy once you get an Oh Baby! super sledge.

hard, but still easy compared to melee runs in F1-2.

Anyone remember fallout 2 (or whichever one had that Sullivan guy who taught you the boxing moves) hand to hand builds? That was crazy hard.

I'm thinking of making an evil character who's back story is that he was in a vault where they were raised as in old England. He thinks he his a prince and rightful heir to the throne of the land of America. He'll join the Legion, thinking he can take it over when he reveals to them that he his the rightful heir.

Naturally, he'd use melee weapons. So I do hope it is feasible, especially without sneak.

well, i got an insane amounth of strength, and i use pistols and such, but when i find an enemy that has a high armor, i switch to my trusty "Oh, Baby!" and hammer the crap out of it

in the later lvls it has actually helped me more than other weapons...

edit: OH! and my melee weapons is about 15 or 20 more or less

I've done it and it's really not very hard you just have to keep a good supply of stimpaks, know where to pick up some decent melee/unarmed weapons, get some decent armor and make sure to be a bit smarter about how you play but I found it to be pretty fun

Yup, it works suprisingly well actually, my Melee only character uses a Bumper Sword and Pool Cue and she works wonders with it.

I love melee in New Vegas. Anything from Tire Irons and knives to Ballistic Fists and the Oh, Baby! super sledge. It's fantastic. I can knock the head off an Alpha Male Deathclaw with 1 punch.

Just aim for 100 in Melee and Unarmed, and the SPECIALS can't remember.. endurance and strength I think it was? Don't forget implants as well.

They game is designed to accommodate any play style.
I went melee in my second playthrough and didn't have that much of a problem, then again I had high luck and stacked crits like a mofo.
As long as you have decent armor and a good weapon it shouldn't be much of a problem.
