WARNING: SPOILERS AHEAD! Heavy ones too!

So I beat New Vegas and got the independent New Vegas ending. I killed off Ceasers Legion and told NCR to fuck off (they ran away like cowards). This is where the game ends. Yes Man tells me he's going to upgrade his systems to be more "assertive" (I assume he means he's going to take over, but they never explain) and then Ron Pearlman tells me war never changes. They go out of their way to tell you what happened after the story ends, but there is NO REASON FOR THE GAME TO STOP.

Seriously, what the hell? Why can't I keep playing? Anyone else find this to be pure bullshit? At least in Fallout 3 you "died".

It's ridiculous! You would have thought that Bethesda would have changed this since Fallout 3. They'll probably make it so that you can continue your game via DLC (just like they did in Fallout 3). It's just a sneaky tactic meant to incise people to purchase their DLC.

Anyway, I'm sure that a mod will come along that acts to fix this, allowing you to continue.

Well I suppose they didn't make a whole section of the game where almost all the other factions were removed/allied with you and your robots roamed freely all over the wasteland making sure there are no enemies or generally anything to fight...

Curious eh?

Well,

if you beat it helping Mr. House, it kinda does make sense that the game doesn't continue, because you live a life of appreciated leisure as he rebuilds the world economy.

Bethesda didn't make New Veqas. That's Obsidian, the oriqinal Fallout creators. And Broken Steel was totally worth the money. I wouldn't even mind Obsidian doinq the same thinq for NV.

Anyway, I'm not exactly sure why they ended. But it seemed fittinq - I mean, the entire qame was buildinq up to the Second Battle of Hoover Dam. When it was over, what else is there to do?

its true that it is weird you dont die and cant play but id rather be alive and an npc than dead and a pc

Story wise they'd either need to rebuild the world entirely or you'd be forced to slowly get bored of a world that hasn't changed at all despite what the epilogue tells you.

It went out with a bang not a whimper, honestly I'm fine with that, if you don't want it to end then dont complete the last quest.

Because everyone hated it so much in Fallout 3, they decided it was obviously a good idea to do it again.

It ends because the designers wanted to make a game with a concrete conclusion(s), if you were allowed to keep playing you could cock up all the things Ron Perlman tells you, If you helped Ceaser you would get the little "You helped Ceaser now he's the boss" ending, but if you kept playing you could just go back and cap Caesar between the eyes, than what, you would have made Ron Perlman a liar, and that is unforgivable.

Besides, we see what happens with the continuing story in Fable 1 & 2, you beat the game and do nothing but dick around for a while, finish up loose side quest, and then theirs nothing epic left to do so you quit, I for one liked that it had a real conclusion with no loose threads and a real feeling that you beat the game.

More like they saw they could sell the continue button in DLC and get away with it... On of my pet peeves about my favorite game =/

This is an unacceptable answer. I understand it's probably true, but they could have at least come up with a fucking reason, right?

I disagree, and I think you'll find a lot of players (if not a majority) disagreeing with you. Yeah you ended the story line, and nothing as epic as that is going to happen, but you understand that and accept that. I do not accept the game not allowing you to do this for no reason other than laziness and/or greediness.

Ok, then don't finish the game til you've done everything, it wouldn't change anything really.

I thought that, sure, it woulda been nice to get broken steel for free, but it made sence: the enclave still needed a bit more killing and the stuff you did actually had caused a change.

With new vegas, unless they program in several overhauls of the game, it would just... drag out and rather ruin the ending still.

It ends because they don't have the sheer manpower and resources to make it continue, nor is there anything worth to continue playing with.

Assuming you played through most of the quests, you'll notice that the ending slideshow takes a fucking long time simply due to much epilogue it must go through. One for each companion, one for each major faction, and then at least one for each minor faction, and not to mention all the little things you did. Things like Vault 19, NCRCF, the Misfits, Novac, Jacobstown, the myriad of things you do in Freeside.... I could go on and on and on.

For each one of those decisions, you have to make a different ending to suit that, as many times these decisions will have various effects that some way alter the other (like Novac defending itself from NCR and the Legion or not).

So, it would have taken a much longer time to finish the game, so we wouldn't even be having this conversation now, would we? Plus, it'd force the cost to go up more because of all that writing, voice recording, play testing, programming, designing, etc. And on top of all that, why would you want to keep playing? The Mojave is pretty much done with to all the losing factions for many years to come. Either Yes Man, Mr. House, the Legion, or NCR have it. Big deal. Legion build it up and make it more Romanesque, NCR just make it.... more NCR basically.... Mr. House will have a boring, lawful oasis in the world where nothing truly exciting happens aside from gambling and sex, and Yes Man..... well, Yes Man is the only real avenue that seems to possibly yield more story. But that's just a giant middle finger to the players and offers no incentive to pick the others based on your own choices. It's an either my way or the high way scenario, which might as well just ax the other three options and make the ending fixed. And that would just make me dislike the ending to such an extreme, much like Fallout 3's, since there is only one possible story path.

tl;dr: Get the fuck back to the top of my post and read, you bloody lazy tosser.

Well yeah, that's the way around it. It just seems like they could have come up with a better ending that would make the whole "you can't play anymore" aspect make a lot more sense.
