Sounds like exactly my kind of game! I loved Fallout 3, not only for its quality but also because it had lots of replay value, which is an important thing for penny-pinchers like me. If, at the very least, Fallout: New Vegas can be as good as Fallout 3, I'll be a very happy gamer.

Does this ring any bells with anybody else? *cough* inFAMOUS *cough*

It's not a curveball if they've given away the shock twist in their marketing buzz.

Other than that, I probably won't be playing anyway, Fallout has never been a big draw for me.

"Hundreds of hours to explore"

Wow, it better be 100 hours of FUN exploration as opposed to 100 hours of wandering around doing nothing interesting in a brown, empty landscape... and 100 hours of -exploration- is a LOT.

Im pretty sure it will take around 10 hours to beat the game propper, 2-3 hours for speedrunners.
Did you miss the article part of this article? It's set in an alive, thriving New Vegas. Lights, people, the whole thing. Try reading it next time.

I'd assumed this was some kind of DLC add-on since that's all that seems to get made for A-list titles for a few years after release.

This sounds pretty cool, maybe I'll finally go out and get Fallout 3 so I'll at least have an idea as to the storyline (even if New Vegas is removed from it.)
Story-wise, it will be more connected to Fallout 1 and 2, actually.

I still dread that Obsidian is developing this game. Obsidian has a terrible habit of making games that start out incredibly deep and detailed, then devolves into a shitty mess by the end (i.e. KOTOR 2 and NWN 2).

Well, I disagree on NWN2, and in case of KOTOR2 it was rushed by the publisher and Obsidian had no time to finish it (and it was their first game after leaving Black Isle and founding their own company).

Remove quick travel or replace it with the car from the second game and it's all good. Fallout 3 wasn't too great though, it was like the game 13 year olds find revolutionary in the fact they have never played anything that is a hybrid game.

I would call bullshit on the hundreds of hours though. Developers of Mass Effect 2 said it took them thirty hours and that was only because they knew how to do everything and skipped side-quests. ME2 took me around twenty hours or so. Unless you're completely incompetent, or easily entertained by trivial things, open world games are not that long.

Well, to be fair, he doesn't say that it will take hundreds of hours to finish but to explore every nook and cranny.

Am I the only one who is going to point this out? [sub](Yes, I know "I'm never the only one", but you know what I mean)[/sub]
Vegas is supposed to be thriving in the game, which sort of defeats the point of Fallout. WASTELAND. If you're exploring a thriving Vegas then you're not exploring a wasteland. Am I missing something to this? I only played Fallout 3 so maybe I am. If so I'll need some clarification on this but still, I thought Fallout was about exploring a barren wasteland rather than a thriving one.

Anyway, other than that little rant, I am pretty exited for this game. Sure, I don't entirely believe that it will take hundreds of hours to explore but I enjoyed 3 and I heard it will be a lot like that. So I'm exited.

As least this time round it makes sense that it would be two hundred years after the bomb had dropped, seriously in fallout 3 you'd swear blind it only happened about ten years ago. Did the bomb remove the survivors ability to tidy up as well as nuke the rest of the world?

Still looking forward to this though.

I haven't played the origional Fallout games, but from what I've heard they were funnier and darker than Fallout 3, and if that's true New Vegas is bound to be pretty pro...

Speaking as a dyed-in-the-wool Fallout fanboy with more hours logged for F1, F2, & F3 combined then I've probably spent eating food, the idea of getting to explore a massive and fairly fully developed (hell, I'm not expecting them to do every bloody restroom and water closet, but give me some awesome casinos to go wild in, I'll be happy) New Vegas is VERY appealing to me. Personally, though, I'm going to go out on a limb here and suggest we're not going to be JUST in New Vegas the whole game. It'll be the center of our world, yes, but it's just too damn tempting to show what's out there beyond the untouched/refurbished New Vegas they're currently flaunting in our faces.

Remember, folks, it's Fallout. Do you REALLY think they'll be able to resist tossing it at LEAST Area 51? Or a decent simulacrum?

Bah, whatever. It could be little more than a graphical update of New Reno and I'd still end up wasting twenty hours just making my character work his way up the boxing circuit and only then get around to taking out rival gangster family members.

Whoooo boy this is gona be awesome!
Tho i have to say that F3 was pretty damn huge and while it had the atmosphere it kinda lacked content for many of the zones...they kinda felt too empty...okay i know it a devasted world and whatnot but....it is after all a game...some random NPCs spawning n trying to kill me wouldnt hurt.
I hope Vegas fixes that n we get to do more stuff. I mean its vegas....the city that never sleeps :D N technology has improved aswell....looking forward for this!
