I love Fallout:3. Ive spent easily over 150 hours playing it. Do you guys think that New Vegas is going to be as good or better?
Well, they are basically taking fallout 3 and making it better:

1. more weapons
2. more customization
3. more varied enemies (such as super mutants will now have different skin color and outfits)
4. you can complete the main quest without killing anyone, meaning that there is more freedom.
5. with the casino you can expect the to be more to do than exploring and questing.
6. the environment will be less monotone.

so yeah, its going to be fallout 3 + 9000

this. plus obsidian doesn't have a 5 year old writing the characters and storyline. so there is no way there wont be an improvement there.

Not really. "And" is a connecting word. "Stupid" is just a word. And when someone uses a word numerous times it starts to get noticeable.
So? "and" might be a connecting word but you didn't make a point so it would make about as much sense, really don't understand why you did it
My point was simply that you overused the word stupid.

Yes, you did. You said "[it's] funny how lots of people think mainstream shooters are" ... ahem... "stupid when you can die in a few however in games like TF2 or Half Life you can soak up bullets like a sponge." Not a whole lot else that could mean.
I think you took the wrong end of the stick. A lot of people think realistic shooters are stupid, when in comparison their alternatives are completely ridiculous. I didn't say I think it's stupid.
I don't think it's the realism of the game-play that people are complaining about. It's the shallow, ludicrous nature of the story and the lack of personality.

Not really relevant. I know why people play new games, I still fail to see why this makes old games bad.
That was relevant because it was why we need new games
Old games have very different styles to satisfy consumer needs at the time, however consumer needs change very quickly and that's why games change from generation to generation. It's difficult going from a 3D first person shooter to say a 2D top down rpg.
That's really a matter of opinion. Personally I have no trouble in adjusting to older graphics and control schemes. Some people might find it harder, but again, that doesn't mean an older game is bad/dull. It just means it's not for everyone.

It's like me and fighting games. I can't stand them, but at the same time I don't make the claim that fighting games are all terrible. They just aren't my thing.

Maybe so, but the animation is still extremely robotic and floaty. Also, I'm not really sure what I meant when I said badly rendered, I meant bad art design.
Yeah I was wandering what you were on about, I will agree it's not the prettiest shooter ever but it's still a large world, lots of interesting places to go, people to see and it's much fuller then Oblivion was

However there is room for improvement which I am hoping new vegas is going to offer
I'm not sure. New Vegas certainly sounds better, but from a purely superficial standpoint it looks almost exactly the same as Fallout 3, only with an orange/brown tint instead of a green one.

as long as it isn't as buggy/glitchy as 3 was i'd be more then happy, everything else would just be icing on the cake.
Hahahahahahaha *collapses*

Bethesda's crashtastic engine being used by a company that hasn't made a game that can reliably be finished with a nasty world ending bug or two creeping up?

It's doomed bug wise.

But anyway, get it. It can only hurt financially. It looks different enough to be worth it and the studio that's making it are a lot better at stories than Bethesda.

Sounds fantastic to me. roll on the 22nd.
If it's moddable, then glitches will be fixed - ALL of them - within a year. So... yeah.

Whoever has played fallout 3 should definitely play oblivion because in my opinion they are the absolute best RPG's in the f*cking world and anyone who disagrees is muff cabbage LOL
totally right. they are some of the best. i count them a equals to bioshock, mass effect, ETC though. i believe that rpgs are the future of gaming.

it could be good..

pro:
-they have hired Mark Morgan the composer from Fallout 1&2 and Planetscape. Yeah!
-Obsidian Entertainment its basically the old team of Black Isle.(shame they went down)
-its basically the old team of Black Isle so the story and factions might be really, really
sarcastic and full of grim and dark humour...UAHAHAHA!

contra:
-it is like fallout 3:
-it could stand mostly on its gore. (Boah, its face went of... and so on)
-it might end just like it, with a shitty ending.
-random encounters were mostly bad(compared to fallout 1&2)

i hope they will include a vehicle like fallout 2 and funnier random encounters.
Look up the wacky wasteland trait. I think it is a trait to have more silly random encounters.

Since Obsidian's doing the story and the main design, best-case scenario is Fallout 1/2's story depth and Fallout 3's purified-fun gameplay. That's a Game of the Year lock if it's not TOO buggy and a potential early Game of the Decade candidate for the 2010s.

Of course, it also has the potential to be a bug-ridden, unplayable mess that gets mentioned in the discussion of Biggest Disappointment of All Time. But I've got my $50 on the New Vegas gambling table that says it's gonna be a world-beater. Can't wait to set Steam to download it before I leave for school on Tuesday.

ultimately I still prefer the turn-based system in Fallouts 1, 2, and especially Tactics.
Well I guess it's just a matter of liking something that is a dead market, or at least a dying market. My favourite films and music come from before the 1950's. But I don't disagree with people who state that newer films do more things in a more engaging way and newer music uses better technology and is more diverse.

The fact of the matter is that you wont see combat, presentation and gameplay like Fallout 2 in a big budget game these days. The market isn't there for it and I can see exactly why. You can't hate on Bethesda for changing the direction of the series. If they made Fallout 3 like Fallout 1 and 2 it would have an indie, cult following but the series wouldn't have the breath of fresh air in it like it has now. It certainly wouldn't of sold as much. Fallout 3 was a wonderful game. I think New Vegas will be even better.

It has to be better owing to many factors: crafting (specialized gun shells & more), hardcore mode, gambling, and since it's running on the FO3 engine it must be polished to a high sheen. If Obsidian botches it (which I doubt the will, FO being their property originally) I'll be thoroughly surprised.

Possibly. I'd have to go back and verify, but I think this was in response to someone presenting their opinion as fact.

I really enjoyed Fallout 3, so I think this will be great. Though, this recent focus on Las Vegas kind of sucks... I've just never been into it. Even Dead Rising did it, to an extent.

Even so, I think it'll be great fun, and I'm sure I'll clock in over 100 hours.

You know, I was thinking the exact same thing when I first heard about New Vegas. Vegas seems kind of tacky to me and it's never been something that interests me or seems entertaining. But, there's been games before where I have hated the setting yet managed to come to love the game. I'm looking at you Oblivion.

Absolutely.

I haven't played much of Dead Rising 2 (and I know it's not really a Vegas-style game) but from what I have played, they've made it work. I have no doubts Bethesda will also manage this, and to a much greater extent even.

Which reminds me, I really should get to pre-ordering myself a copy. >.>
