I have spent the last half an hour trying to find all of the ingredients for a poison. Now i ask, how do i combine the poison with a melee weapon.

use the poison in the AID screen. It will poison your current weapon

I will consult the fallout wiki....... it doesn't say exactly how to put it on the weapons but I know you can make the poison at a campfire IF your survival skill is high enough. Wish I could be of more help.

I would've done that but i wondered if i would drink it.

I thought that too but i found out after i accidently used one.
Did it work by the way?
