Ok, Fallout New Vegas has been out for a while and everyone seems to love it. My question is why ? People seem to be running around blinded by nostalgia about Fallout games, ignoring its many and obvious faults.

The game itself is only 6GB's which is half the size of Fallout 3. The game is essentially one big copy and paste, many of the textures and and environments reused. The vault you find in New Vegas is such a clear copy and paste its laughable and the world is tiny, and not even a sandbox.

I know its all open free... technically but the game controls where you go by having immensely overpowered mobs herding your movements. So you can really only take one path throughout the wastelands. Its really linear gameplay, any attempt to break out and go on your own usually bugs the main quest which is also, very easy to do. The game punishes you for taking choices it doesn't approve off or heading in directions it doesn't like. A friend of mine managed to sneak past the Deathclaws and make it to New Vegas early on. Only to have the main quest instantly update to catch up, skipping 50% of the content and then crashing.

Speaking of broken quests, the game is laughably buggy, to the point where its almost unplayable if you don't heavily mod and patch it. Huge amounts of crashes and bugs that break any real immersion. The quest themselves ant much better, one you remove all the "Go to A and talk to B" quests there are less than probably 10 proper side quests with any real detail. About the same total quests as Fallout 3 had in Megaton.

The game reeks of expansion pack material padded out to be resold as a full price game, this wouldn't be too bad if people weren't eating up with their "I <3 Fallout" glasses on. The series was great yes but this is a sad and shallow addition too it which uses humor to hide its failings. Even the humor itself is weak with often no attempt to fit them in with context. "A supermutant with a wig... yeah sounds awesome, throw it in. Or I know! Ghoul space explorers!" Being thrown in because of the lols, even breaking some established ideas to do so. Like Glowing One ghouls no longer doing radiation damage.

People should try and judge these games that piggyback off previous success's without the rose tinted view or the love for the series blinding their judgement. Take off the fallout 3 label and call it "Wasteland Tales" and then this game wouldn't of even made it past launch.

Anyway, rant over.

Generally these are the criticisms a lot of people have.

I love Fallout: New Vegas, it's great fun and feels like Fallout 3 plus more.

I don't mind copy pasted textures, the bugs are damn annoying and shouldn't be there but at least there is a fix in the works and the invisible walls do really annoy me a lot.

But I absolutely loved Fallout 3, it was my favourite game of the year and is still one of my favourite games ever. Fallout: New Vegas has it's problems but it still feels fresh, it mixes things up with the reputation system and a few new tricks up its sleeves.

It's all just opinions. The free roam, go anywhere, do anything aspect has always been great.

Basically, I disagree.

I like the Fallout 3 and New Vegas. Sure the textures are the same, but it takes place after most of the world was destroyed by nukes. How much variation are you looking for? I can't stand the bugs but they are being worked on, so as long as they are fixed the game should be fine. Ya, the map is smaller but as far as I can tell there are a lot more locations on the map. And it seems like no matter where I go they have at lest 2 quests. I dunno I kinda like that.

The only bad thing is the bugs(And there are many, luckily ive not run into most of them myself like others ahve). Its only as linear as you make it. You can head north in the beginning if you want to. Not their fault that you're a rookie who cant handle a challange.

I went north and skipped the whole go south thing because I wanted to. They only herd your movemeny if you let them. Took some effort, a few wellplaced traps and alot of shovelwacking. But I made my path through the cazador valley north of Goodsprings. Piece of cake.

Don't like it don't play it It's just that easy.

Honestly though the only thing I agree with 100% there is the bugs. They are awful, though admittedly my copy of fallout 3 GOTY edition actually froze more than NV does.

No actually I have checked the torrents just to make sure how big they are. Vanilla Fallout 3 comes in at 5.5 GB While Fallout NV comes in a little more over 6 GB. With the DLC from the game of the year to it that makes it 7GB and Fallout NV hasn't got DLC yet so.

So that's one more failed Troll attempt.

Next!

Because. It's. FUCKING. FUN.

For fucks sake, why can't people just realise that people can enjoy games, and ignore, or not mind any 'faults'. I don't fucking analyse every game I play, I just try to enjoy them.

Fallout 2 was essentially fallout with new guns, new places, a new story, and a few new textures, yet it is said by many to be one of the best RPGs ever made.

So if New Vegas does to Fallout 3 what Fallout 2 did to Fallout it isn't acceptable?

Edit:Oh, and I haven't experienced any major bugs at all save for crashing twice out of about 150 hours of gameplay. Good to be a member of the PC gamer master race.

Greetings, my name is Acidstrider, Fallout fan since 1998, when i first played Fallout 1. And I hate this game. I really just utterly hate it. I start the main game and I am instantly thrown into a character, so generic, they don't even attempt of giving you any depth, aside from "You are a courier!". That within itself is a huge back step, compared to the start of fallout 3. But whatever, it is a RPG, I can make up my own background if I want. But then I notice my doctor's eye's, and the fact their floating two feet away from his head, I am already seeing bugs! Still I shall not let this discourage me! I reboot the game and now, my doctor dosen't have a head at all, but is merely a pair of floating eye balls... I then reboot my computer and remake my character two times before I seem to have everything working.

So I then went on to protect the town, which had so selflessly taken care of me, while I suffered from a bullet to the head, which happened to magically not kill me. Now bethesda advertised one of New vegas features, being a heavier focus on melee combat, something which was instantly demonstrated, by the fact that they all charged at me with sticks, while I blew their brains out with my rifle.

I then martched bravely on toward New Vegas, the very place this game has been hyped up about, only to be instant killed by Death claws. Hm, odd... I said to myself, not knowing why they'd put such high leveled enemies, in the path of the very place, the game is named after. But I then crouched down, and snuck by them, after only two reloads I made it to New Vegas.

Immedietly after ran into a group of thugs, whom I killed instantly, one of which who dropped a incinerator. Odd to find such a high ranked weapon this early on I thought, but I soon forgot about it, as I approached the lights of New vegas. Only to discover I had to walk around the whole stupid thing, to make it to the door. I then entered the slums, where I guess I was meant to farm the 2000 caps, needed to enter Nev vegas. But as a former WoW gold farmer and dispite just starting the game, I'd managed to collect a sufficient amount and I entered through the grand gates.

It was then I was approached by a robot, the very same, which supposedly saved me. He goes on about seeing me around a lot, and I've gone far, alluding that We've meet several times lately, and I've been looking for my would be killer, even though I didn't give a monkies about them. It was then I was introduced to Mr House, and even before he started speaking, I had no idea what the hell was going on. House start spouting a name, I assumed was my killer, and something about a platinum chip... by this point I was really lost.

My computer also seemed completely lost, as it crashed only moments after wards. I wanted to like New vegas and lord knows, I really tried to. But the lackluster story did not do anything for me and nor did any of the side quests. Gone are the small interesting spots, with rich colorful characters, and instead we have copy pasted locations from fallout 3. The locations in themselves are dull, and offer nothing new, from what we saw in fallout 3 (not counting the Casino's), which in itself could be tolerated, but as defiante already stated, they rarely offer little more then, to go here, get this, kill that, with little to no choices on your part.

And don't get me started on when I do get choices. I won't go to deep into this, but I found myself almost reloading two days back into the game, due to my decisions (and a fair share of bugs I assume) I was now stuck. It was around here, I threw up my keyboard and removed all expectations I had for Fallout online.

In this case, its definately Expansion pack level material. But goes just enough beyond most other people's expansions to warrent a fresh game.

But you'd figure they'd have figured out how to program for the engine now that its the second time around. I don't recall the origional Fallout 3 crashing anywhere near as often as NV does. They have no excuse for the level of bugs currently infesting Fallout 3 New Vegas. And it will certainly affect my next purchase from them, if I ever make another that is.

Trolls are out in force today.

So many fallout new vegas troll topics so little time.

If you hate the game so much why not go to the Gamefaqs/4chan forum and rant on about it on there im sure you would be greeted with open arms.

Glowing ones Do do radiation damage.
In the space Ghoul quest, their lead by a Glowing one which doesnt do raditation, retconning their own lore just to put in a cheap gymmic of a quest. And reason why I feel that this game needs to be held to proper standards is because its from one of our most loved series. Fallout represents one of the best RP trilogies made but New Vegas just seems like a cheap cash in compaired to the rest.

Game time alone it isnt even close to Fallout 3, you can complete the whole thing side quests included in a few days. Probably only one if you know what your doing.

Dont get me wrong, im a big fan of the fallout series which is why im so annoyed at this game. It was so buggy on release it was like the company didnt care, which might not be far from the truth since Bethesda are not the origional creators of the fallout series.

So many fallout trolls... maybe because their not trolls. Just legitimate gammers with valid complaints. Even a fan of this game cant argue its rediculously buggy and poorly tested. For a AAA game its embarrassing.

How would it not? You install it, you play it. Suddenly a quest is added to deliver a package to New Vegas and...voila! Fallout 3 New Vegas.

"You receive a letter telling you that the shinning city of new vegas is open for business! Perhaps you can find more work over there. Go see the Brotherhood of Steel about it, rumour is their looking for someone to carry a package over there. Could you be your ticket to brighter places!" Pick up quest to go to New Vegas, get on a boat like you do Lookout Point DLC and load up in New Vegas... only to get shot.

Not only would that give the game more gravitas but also more credibility since you would actually care about your character and what you were transporting.

And it's even more embarrassing how many topics we have about this. Why spend your time ranting on about a game on a forum its just stupid. Your just spoiling it for people who do like the game.

If you don't like the game just don't play it. Just get my money back or whatever you want to do. Nothing lost nothing gained simple as.

Sorry but it has to be said.

(p.s the reason for the games bugs and glitches is because of the shitty Gamebyro engine Bethesda had and it has nothing to do with Obsidian's inexperience with making and developing videogames)
