Silent Hill was actually really good. Made by the guy who made Brotherhood of the Wolf. Another great flick. A Fallout movie or miniseries on HBO or something could work if done right. Not enough post apocalyptic cinema imo.
I think a better way to say that is:

"Silent Hill was actually not as horrible as it could have been..."

Because I dont feel Silent Hill was "great" by any means. Oh, it was serviceable, the way that Resident Evil was relatively serviceable, as long as you are watching it on the SCI FI channel. But in order to make Silent Hill a moderate success (i.e. it didnt suck too bad) they had to change HUGE elements of the story to suit a mainstream audience and completely wasted Sean Bean's screen talent because the man is a fantastic actor. Some of the visuals were awesome, but a lot of what made the original game great was lost in a meandering story that seemed to only BORROW from the game the bits that might have seemed decent, and discarded everything else, including major portions of the story.

A Fallout movie or series might turn out OK if done by someone like JJ Abrams, but my fear is that Fallout isnt a big enough namesake property for a studio to assign a capable director or writer. We'll end up with something like Doomsday or Thunderdome which I'll admit were pretty cool movies minus a few issues.

But knowing hollywood, I see a "Fallout" movie starring Nicholas Cage, and that thought alone should terrify you to your core...
Liam Neesom could be the LW's Dad in the movie

The movie Doomsday is alot like Fallout (except it is a virus instead of nuclear warfare). Even some of the action scenes resemble VATS.

Fallout would make an interesting serialized TV show if they stayed faithful to the source material (particularly the semi-canon Fallout Bible) and put actual decent sci-fi writers on the task.

Fallout: The Movie? Good in theory, likely epic fail in practice. While it could work the same way the aforementioned TV series could work, the "video game movies automatically suck" principle applies.

Come to think of it, there are a lot of video games that would make excellent TV serials (either live-action or animated). Besides the brutally obvious Pokemon, take any game set in a sandbox world (Elder Scrolls, Fallout, Grand Theft Auto...) and you could make a pretty damn good TV series out of it. Hell, I bet the Escapists could get together and do a proof-of-concept Elder Scrolls: The Animated Series pilot. And if a message board full of would-be writers and animators could do it, it'd be child's play for actual professionals.
I agree, they would have to have it done by true Fallout lovers to keep it free from the typical "hollywood" film types. And use the characters whose voices we have gotten used to in the game anywhere possible.

They're probably just protecting the brand, I doubt there's actually concrete plans for a movie or series.
I hope they do it, I think it would be great - and timely!
Fallout was inspired by a lot of things, one of them being The Road Warrior (aka Mad Max 2.) If you want a good post-apocalyptic movie just watch that.
Here is a trailer for "The Road" - note the buildings, roads, cars, etc. in this movie - it is a lot like Fallout 3; (and was the influence for a lot of Fallout 3)- it looks like it will be an Awesome movie.

http://movies.yahoo.com/movie/1810037227/video/13468775/
That looks freakin awesome!
Except for the whole "Global Warming will Kill Us All!!!" message/theme that it seems to hint at..
I thought it looked great in some ways: it lacked Super Mutants and Glowing Ones and the plot seemed a little too too. I think it would have to be interspersed with the irony of the game to be perfect - but I will probably rent "The Road" when it gets to the Blockbuster. However, if the Fallout movie comes out I will buy it plus watch it at the theater.

ANother good one is A Boy and his Dog... it's hard to find and has a very YOUNG Don Johnson as the lead character, but it pretty much hits Fallout right on the head. I mean, the main character in the movie wanders a post apocalyptic wasteland with his dog companion, avoiding mutants, fighting off bands of raiders, and scavenging old canned goods from burned out bunkers and towns. It even has a strange city of people with an indestructible android guardian.
Oh and it shows T&A.
I'd like to see that! I'll have to try and find it at Blockbuster, sounds good!
Be warned, it was made in the late 70's early 80's i think so it DOES look dated.. and it's EXTREMELY hard to find.
But it's a great movie in my opinion. They even over the course of the movie discuss how and why people are forced to survive and reflect on the nature of a world after a nuclear apocalypse. LOL and Don Johnson's ultimate goal throughout the movie, the great 'quest' his character is on?

Getting laid.
Yes, the thing he consistently is determined to do in his travelling is to find women and have lots and lots of sex. Who cares about finding canned goods or rebuilding society, he just wants booty and will risk anything (repeatedly) to get it.

the problem is, few if any of those mediums ever make GOOD movies.
Name a GOOD video-game movie?
ANY video game movie.

Exactly.
Leave fall out alone, hollywood.
Silent Hill.
Resident Evil(the first one) was pretty entertaining.
Max Payne was made into a really good movie called "Sin City"(Okay, I'm cheating. But Sin City feels much more like Max Payne then the Max Payne movie did)

And of course, the first rule to making a good Video Game movie is to prevent Uwe Boll from having anything to do with it. Well, maybe let him buy a ticket to see it in the theater, but that's pushing it.

Wanted to re-populate the earth so he would have a lot of workers to help in the rebuild? Lol.

A Boy and His Dog is one of my favorite movies of all time. His quest is actually to rape women not just get laid. He gets a little more than he bargained for to say the least lol. The ending was probably the most fucked up thing ever though. It was awesome.

You can actually watch it free online. It's archived and perfectly legal.

Oh, and the dog calls him Albert to tick him off, just like Harold and that tree!

And "The Down Under" is like Tranquility Lane, lol.

And something that sounds suspiciously like the Enclave radio in the background in "The Down Under"

Ooohhh, that Michael was freaky!

Ewww, yuch, what an ending!

Ok, first of all, you guys are going off about nothing. It's not confirmed they are making it, so chill.

Next, there's no reason why it can't be good. Seriously, I don't see why a series set in the Fallout universe couldn't work. It doesn't have to follow one of the Fallout games to the letter. It can simply be based on the setting, using the quite rich lore of the post-apocalyptic USA. There are plenty of Vaults to play around with...

It would be a good idea I would urge them not to base it on any 1 of the games but instead on the the post apocalyptic America as a whole.

If fallout were to become a series, there are so many possible character dispositions that are possible it would only make sense to have several main characters (ie evil, good, neutral) as you cant clearly define the main character in fallout as you make them uniquely through the course of playing the game and your decisions.
