I liked FO3, it felt very atmospheric, quite nonlinear and with a few mods it had all I could hope for from a Fallout game.
Ok, maybe they should have given some kind of isometric third person turn-based control option, kind of like in FO Tactics, and since I don't feel that ruined the game, I see it might have turned some people off.
Apart from that, I found all the black humor and retro post-apocalyptic stuff I've always wanted from a FO title.

When I played Falout 3 I felt like I was playing a futuristic version of Oblivian instead of Fallout.
This pretty much sums up my opinions of Fallout 3. As soon as I saw Bethesda's models and UI, I knew that Fallout as I knew it was dead. It sucks, but that's the way it goes. At least Fallout avoided the complete bastardization of the franchise and steep decline in quality that X-com experienced, another excellent turned based strategy game that had problems with it's third installment and then went to shit from there.

But, it's still a fallout setting and it's a very well executed game. I have faith in Bethesda to keep a reasonably high standard for quality products, and don't envy them for having to try to fill the shoes left by the disestablishment of Black Isle. I would recommend that you just don't compare it in too much detail to the franchise that it's supposed to be continuing. You'll keep your sanity that way.

This screams from the top of the world's tallest building what a shameless liar you are.
What followed in your post only confirmed that.

Well, OP.. why don't you cry about it?

It's a better game if you don't think of it as a "Fallout" game, just think of it as a stand-alone game. You'll enjoy it much more.

OP: Don't worry; there's a twist ending: they didn't "ruin your favorite game." Fallout 3 doesn't remove the first two games from existence, nor does it deny you the pleasure you'd derive from playing them. Play them all you want. I know I still replay the first Fallout every so often, and enjoy it every time (I haven't replayed 2; it was good, but never really felt connected to the protagonist in that one).

I like Fallout 3 too, but then I don't think a franchise should have to confine itself to a single genre or style of gameplay if the world of the franchise is capable of supporting multiple kinds of fun.

QFT really, couldn't have said it better myself.

Really, it's not like BethSoft actually ruined your favourite game, it's not like the lead developers came round to your house and screwed around with the coding of Fallout 1 and 2 to make them somehow terrible, nor did the release of Fallout 3 create some sort of space time warp that phased every copy of Fallout 1 and 2 out of known reality.

I thought that Fallout 3 was a great game. I spent hours just wandering around the wasteland not really doing any quests or anything, just wandering. It was by no means a short game unless you just powered through the main story line without straying from it at all. And if you did that you missed about 70% maybe more of the game. Mind you this is also without ANY of the DLc. I mean once you get the DLC that pratically doubles the life of the game. So you can't really call the game bad.

I haven't played the earlier Fallout games and I don't know too much about them. But from what I do know they were very different in style. From what I've heard from this forum is that they were very good games. Now Fallout 3 was apparently different from the first two but that doesn't mean it ruined the series. It just took it in a different direction, sort of like if they took Warcraft and turned it into a RPG (wait a minute...). Yes Fallout 3 isn't like Fallout 1 & 2, but they all excelled at the type of game they were going for. So if you don't like Fallout 3 just don't play it. You always have your first 2 to play.

You people need to stop bitching about a game that was released 13 years ago, seriously, no one cares anymore. Grow up.
quoted for epic truth.... even if whiners never learn/grow up.

OT:... lul!
Actually, i still care about the first two Fallout games. And i don't think i'm the only one.

But, i do agree that the existence of the third does not stop people from enjoying the first two.

So I'm the only person who the Bethesda dev team came around to their house, beat me up, smashed their FO1 and FO2 disks, got me black marked from every available source to get new copies and implanted a shock chip in my head programmed to go off if I see some much as the intro screens for FO1 & 2, and just to add the final insult, pissed on my PSU?
