Grand Theft Auto: I'm just not into cars or random crime. Plus, I know it's still a fantasy, but's it's not really a fantastical enough fantasy for me. If I wanted to shoot hookers badly enough that I didn't mind going to prison, I have a door that will take me outside.
I really hate to say this, but that doesn't mean you don't like the franchise. It means you're playing it wrong.
You're gonna have to elaborate on that. How SHOULD I be playing it, then? I was under the impression that "Follow the missions until you're tired of them, then sandbox and do random activities until you're bored of that" was how I was supposed to go about it. It's just that the missions aren't particularly interesting, I don't care about the characters, and it takes about ten minutes in the sandbox before I'm bored of that. Watching my resources steadily grow is one of the few things I like in this kind of game, but it's the most mundane kind of fantasy money and power and doesn't appeal to me the way visiting an alien planet or riding a dragon does.
Also I keep wishing I were playing as a character from a Prototype game - not actually playing a Prototype game, necessarily, just someone who could run over all these annoying cars and buildings and just get where I want to be.
Ah well you didn't mention the missions in your post, I was concerned you were one of those players that turns on the game, activates the all-weapons cheat and then shoots people for a bit. I mean obviously if you didn't enjoy playing the missions, then your statement was totally valid, and I'll retract my own statement.

But maybe that's because I absolutely love Rockstar's writing and characters. 'Flawed' is their writing specialty, and I find it excellent.

But yeah, as you were.

Call of Duty/Battlefield. Just not my thing. I spent 12 years doing "real life combat" and I don't buy games to play something I spent half my life doing for a career. I don't hate them before anyone chimes in they just don't appeal to me. Although the next person that says to me they know about weapons because they played those games is going to get backhanded.
I've never really understood why knowing about firearms is considered a badge of honour, I mean above knowledge of any other engineering or mechanics or science.

Anyone else think this is just another "things people like, but you hate" type thread with more clever wording?

OT: Uh... iunno.
Well, some people might view it as that. Me, I choose to view at as "Games that you just can't get into despite their immense popularity; Or were into but then they declined in quality somewhere along the line, yet are still inexplicably popular."

Though I also suspect there are a few people in this thread who say they hate certain games just to sound edgy.

Deus Ex, though the second one is considered non-canon to most people so it's mostly the first one i'm talking about. It's just a bit... Meh, 'S 'k I guess. Nothing that special.

Thanks for hyping it up for me Internet!

Deus Ex: High Resolution is really good though, but that's sort of a standalone game almost removed from the other two from what i've gathered.

Resident Evil is another one, RE4 is the only one i've bothered to play through to the end and the gameplay is like pulling teeth, can't move while moving and the movement controls are stiff as fuck. What a combo.

DMC is another, DMC3 is good from what i've played so far but I get round to restarting it and goddamn I pick the wrong one out of Yellow or Gold at the start. One means you get checkpoints within levels and the other means you have to start the level again if you die with no checkpoints. Think that's the jist of it. Would be nice if they actually explained that one better than not at all.

Well, I USED to like Assassins Creed but it has gotten worse over the years.

As for franchises well... I just don't care about anything at all it seems.
Mass effect got my attention though, I still love the series.

I'll list 2 of my uninteresting franchises here: 1) Assassin's Creed. The first game was repetitive to such a degree that I haven't been able to get excited for an AC release since.
I liked Assassins Creed and Ass-Creed 2 but when they started rolling out AC-2.4 and AC-2.8 I just lost interest. The same can be said of Kingdom Hearts, where I loved the first game but I couldn't play the second and it seems like every other game was a spin-off or, side-story.

Out of all of the PS3 exclusives I've played, none of captivated me (I guess LBP is the only franchise-title that I've played). Uncharted looks really boring to me as well but I wasn't a fan of Tomb Raider back in its heyday either.

Since I see it coming closer to being a franchise, the reason I don't plan on ever playing Borderlands 2 is because I played Borderlands 1.

Honorable mention goes to military shooters and not just modern ones but basically all of them stretching as far back as the original Battlefield: Call of Honor. Also games based on real-world sports. I can kind of get into the more whimsical ones and, Wii-Sports but if they're meant to be realistic then I don't care. My favorite Football game for example is without a doubt Tecmo Super Bowl on the NES.

Valve games: According to the internet Valve is the greatest thing in gaming, but I just don't see it. Not to say that they make bad games, just nothing spectacular.

Assassin's Creed: It's weird, because I want to like it, but I never feel all that engaged when I play the games.

Grand Theft Auto: See Assassin's Creed.

Zelda: Again, see Assassin's Creed.

Resident Evil: Horrendous, horrendous writing.

Metal Gear Solid: Bonkers story with overly convoluted plots.

Sidenote: I see a lot of folks aren't big on the major shooters/action games (Halo, Gears, Uncharted, COD, Battlefield). Funnily enough, those are some of my favorite games.

That's exactly my problem with the series (at least since it's gone 3D). I've tried both the console versions and on the PC, and whether I use a controller or a keyboard and mouse, I can't find any way to play any of them that doesn't feel wrong to me and just can't get into them no matter how many times I've tried when people have convinced me to give them another chance.

Pokemon

I don't hate or dislike it, I've just never been even remotely interested in it, despite the fact that it's a pretty big fucking deal in the world of gaming.

Halo and Call of Duty I liked at first but got so stale and repetitive so fast that I can barely stand them anymore, and I can't help but be amazed by the froth of people (I almost said fanboys but I know a lot of females as well that do this) foaming at the mouth over Black Ops II and Halo 4. Assassin's Creed's gameplay is a great and well-executed concept, though it has gotten pretty old pretty fast, but I love the story enough to power through.

I've never been able to get into any Bethesda game, so I'm not big into Elder Scrolls, at least after Daggerfall (which still wasn't anything spectacular). Morrowind was cool at first, just due to its expansiveness, how many things you can do, etc but it got plodding so fast. Oblivion was a bad game. The graphics were pretty good, but it was so barren and every landscape repeated. The character interactions looked bland and the actual context wasn't any better, the fighting was atrocious, and the story tried to be huge but it wasn't engaging at all. I loved Skyrim the first 20 hours. Just because it's so beautiful, the fighting is actually decent (not fun mind you), the story actually starts off really good, but it also gets so boring after a point. There's too much to do and it's all the same. If you could just hammer through the main quest without getting your ass kicked I'd be ok with it, but forcing exploration of a beautiful but boring world filled with meaningless and repetitive tasks is not something I can get into.

Legend of Zelda. Not bad games, I find them very interesting, but aside from A Link to the Past, I've never been able to derive fun from them. And don't get me started on making the same game over and over every two console generations (though to be fair, it's been basically the same format since Ocarina).

Also, I've always thought Virtua Fighter is a severely bland fighter. I never found Borderlands any fun, Half-Life doesn't tickle my fancy but I plan to give it another go soon. I know there are so many I can't think of at the moment.

Though your sidenote threw me off, I have to agree with the first four titles. Though part of what I do like about Resident Evil (through 4) is the horrible, almost blasphemous when you consider how much those people get paid, writing. It's kind of like that cheesy, horrible 60's Horror or Sci-Fi movie that's so bad it's awesome.

God of War. I was never interested in it. Devil May Cry or Bayonetta are much more my type of hack n' slash.

Left 4 Dead and Team Fortress 2. I just don't enjoy them anymore. If sequels were announced, my reaction would be "meh" (and then I'd get warned/suspended for a low content post). I'm bored with killing zombies and backstabbing pyros. Anyhow, they're nothing special. I prefer to play something with a little more... substance.

Pokemon, out of all the grindy boring uninteresting RPG's out there this seems to be the only one that seems popular. And I just can't fathom why, it's just plain boring, all the games are exactly the same minues newer, and even uglier, pokemon each time. Hell have they even made the pokemon do more than flicker during a battle yet?

Everyone everyone already mentioned, I never get on these forums fast enough and I don't wanna sound unoriginal, so I'll just agree with everyone, especially cause they are all ironically my opinions on the franchises mentioned. Well, less irony and more fact.

Uuuuh Dead Space! No one mentioned that one! Liked the 1st one, but the 2nd one I played all the way through and kept lying to my self thinking "I am having so much fun with this game! *giant awkward grin*" which I wasn't. Same outcome may appear with 3...

And Resident Evil (original, I know): 1-3 had a silly story with a silly premise and had silly moments that were supposed to be taken SERIOUSLY, then 4 comes along and while still silly, its so silly that the story almost feels intentionally self parody and I wouldn't love it any other way! Then 5 came and shoved a silly story in my face that tried to make me take it SERIOUSLY... 6 did the same thing... So I guess you can say RE4 is the Kung Pow of video games, a masterpiece in campy silly storytelling. While 5 and 6 were the last hopes to save the doomed franchise, the outcome: They doomed it and then some.

Call of Duty, Battlefield, Halo, Gears of War, God of War, most western AAA titles. I like things colorful, happy, and a non-steroid abusing gritty protagonist.
