Famous movies you have never seen, but want to?

The only one I can think of is Good Will Hunting.

I have at least seen bits of classic films but they usually end up as a total bore like Casablanca and Lawrence of Arabia therefore I stop watching anymore of it.

Though, a lot of them are Criterion Collection releases, which are always really expensive.

Carlito's Way is a decent movie. I don't know if I put it above Scarface or not. But it has its great moments.

But now let me ask something of you.

My absolute favorite genre of movie is the Crime Genre.

I love movies like Goodfellas, Casino, Scarface, Carlito's Way, Reservoir Dogs, and to a degree Pulp Fiction, American Gangster, The Departed, etc etc.

But I have never had the pleasure of watching The Sopranos so judging from your avatar you must have seen it so tell.

Since I love movies like Goodfellas and Casino, will I love the Sopranos?

It's easy to see the impact of Goodfellas on The Sopranos. The series creator has named Martin Scorsese as a big influence. You'll probably like it. It's a smart show with great characters. But keep in mind that it focuses more on the characters' personal lives, especially Tony's, than these movies. It's definitely a crime show, but family and introspection are big parts of it too.

I have been watching a bunch of random scenes on youtube for a long time now but it is nothing compared to watching the whole package. Most of the times it shows Tony as just being an unlikeable dick but then it shows scenes like this:

It's deliberately ambiguous. You have any number of theories saying he is and he isn't.

A friend and I are intending to do a scary movie night because there's a bunch of classic horrors that I want to see. Namely Friday the 13th, The Texas Chainsaw Massacre, and Nightmare On Elm Street, even though I'm not sure how well they'll hold up and if they'll even still seem scary.
There's also some Japanese horrors like The Ring and The Grudge that I know full well I'm going to regret watching because they'll bother me for months.

Consider the fact it's a EXTREMELY long film (3 hours and 48 minutes, not even the LoTr, Star Wars or even any of the Marvel movies are that long) which if I vaguely rememberly it was mostly talking at the first part, yeah it was a total bored fest. Also FYI this was on tv so I can't eactly pick a scene to pause and watch the rest later on.

Ringu actually isn't super freaky. It's more of a travelogue/mystery that's a bit unnerving with a couple scary setpieces thrown in. I went into it expecting something nightmarish like you, but it really isn't too bad. Still a good film though.

Also Lawrence of Arabia is pretty rough. I don't like any of Lean's epics, they're all bloated, underdeveloped, obvious, and rely far too much on their settings and scale.

You can't appreciate it it you just glance away and only have a passing attention. I suffered that with Godfather the first viewing then I watched it more and more and fell in love with it.

And personally I love long movies. Just show me every little detail.

i wish to see Dune again, because the last time i saw it, i was... 9, and for my 9 years old eyes, it was boring as hell. maybe today i would more appreciate it...

If I don't liked it, then I don't like it. It's as simple as that. Sure I can get it's a classic for a reason but that doesn't mean I got to watched all classic.

Technically the same kinda apply to Godfather since it was on Tv but I was called down to help dad out at the takeaway so I missed most of it.

I'd say those are all pretty famous in the realm of the medium itself. Maybe not in the sense that everyone familiar with film knows them, but totally in the sense of being big, canonical mainstays.

I'm also trying to catch up on some Japanese films, but mostly ones from the 60's that I haven't seen by directors that were big at the time. The more minor, early films of people like Imamura, Suzuki, Oshima, Yoshida, Kurahara, etc.

The French New Wave I found was a really neat thing to witness develop. If you can help it, try to watch a couple precursors to the movement (like early films from the Rive Gauche directors) then check out the big three (Hiroshima, A Bout de Souffle, 400 Blows) that set the whole thing off. There's a neat progression from documentary realism into genre---then the studios began backing them. It was a very strange time.

As I said before the best about 2001 is the very beginning which is almost a completely different movie

Superman 79 oh man......The best part of that movie was the first half aswell. Because well let's just I really don't like this movie's Lex Luthor that much.

Avoid the 3rd movie

I have my grips in some areas but its a good movie. I just think Platoon is the better Vietnam movie.

MY ABOSLUTE FAVORITE MARTIN SCORSESE MOVIE, WATCH IT.

Another classic. For one I thought this movie was gonna be some whacky 80s dick cheese because of that famous "Say hello to my little friend" bit like this movie is the Saints Row of Crime Movies or something. I was completely wrong.

There are moments in the books that can be increadibly dull to read. This one chapter in the Two Towers book litirally made me took a break for a month where its just litirally Frodo and Sam just moving from one place to another.

You know I own ALL the crucial books of middle earth.

I've heard things about the third movie, but I will probably watch it anyways just for context. Plus to see what the big damn deal about it since I hear it's just the worst.

I like Platoon, and I think it's great.

I have heard that the movie romances a lot of what Lawrence did from what a few documentaries I've seen, but I think movies tend to do that anyways with historical events.

But yeah, a lot of movies I want to watch are just to see what the deal about them are and why they are so popular. I have friends that are huge movie goers and I see maybe three in one year, and there are a lot of classics I want to see.

I just have no time to watch any of them though. XD

Godfathers: Watch it and if you have HBO on your cable they are gonna pass the Godfather Epic thursday next week which is the first 2 movies combined into one plus all the deleted scenes added making it practically 6 hours long. So treat it like you were watching a whole season of TV series uninterrupted by commericials and credits. Without Spoiling too much it is played in complete chronilogical order because Godfather Part 2 was pretty much Two movies in One which where on half on the film shows the central character Vito Corleone from his youthful beginning and the other half was the story that took place after the Godfather Part 1 movie. So basically Godfather was already a trilogy before Godfather Part 3 ever came out

That sounds amazing...
