If I were female, I'd imagine this shit would make me vomit in my mouth and wonder if guys think about anything besides sex.

Right now though, I just find it annoying. Cartoon ass and titties do not amuse.

To be fair, I didn't mind it in Battle Royale, because it just fit the general atmosphere.

Women are actually more sexual than men, but they just wont talk about it xD

Fanservice is okay, as long as there are no characters only for that purpose (im looking at you ST:Elite Force 2!)

It's not sex in general with fanservice. It's the obsessiveness of panties and big tits, which I don't think straight chicks get all too hot and bothered about. If it included bulky guys with bulging junks, then I think it would be a different story.

PS: wait, is there a fanservice for chicks?

I don't care about the gratuitous tits and poontang as long as the game/movie/whatever in question is actually interesting, but these are usually mutually exclusive criteria because guys that are obsessed with tits and poontang usually can't write for shit. (I mean, more than the usual heterosexual male obsession with same.) That sort of thing isn't "fan service" it's service to the people who are making the game/movie/whatever, just as most romance novels are written BY women FOR women.

The fan service that annoys me is when the people tasked with, say, making a movie out of a comic series leave in a bunch of crap that serves no purpose in the new medium simply because it is beloved by the fan base and they don't want to offend. News flash! If you're converting anything beloved by vast numbers of people to a new medium, you're going to offend someone. It is impossible to avoid it. However, if you actually make a GOOD MOVIE/GAME/WHATEVER, the fanboi's will at least be drowned out by your masses of enthusiastic and well-deserved NEW fans who knew little to nothing about the original. Be told.

fighting game stuff
This is more a question of character design than gameplay mechanics. Personally, I don't get why people are listing stuff other than DOA. Most of those games feature archetypal characters that, I agree, aren't fanservice in themselves because they were new at the time they were created. Were they sexualized to get more sells? Sure. But it didn't become a total gimmick until DOA rolled around, and now I'm seeing skimpy outfits in every 3D fighter I come across.

What would you rather have in a fighting game? A bunch of realistic fighters using real martial arts? If you actually translated that into a game chances are it would be boring and over in about one minute.
The Virtua Fighter series, I find, is closer to this than any game I've played. And I love it for it. All of the fighters (barring ninjas and crusty hermits) look and feel real. The females are the most consistently under-sexualized I've ever seen, and simultaneously they're all stunning.

I don't know about you, but I like how the laws of gravity keep a woman with DDs from doing a triple back-flip.

i don't feel insulted, but it is kind of annoying. it seems that if the story isn't really picking up in an anime or manga the creators throw in a few panty shots to desract the readers. but thats what sells so its become an ongoing trend that will continue until everyone stops buying manga and anime.(so that means it will never die)

Hey it comes with the territory. The running gags, nuiances, and the horrible and untasteful shove in my face because we pander to a sterotype are all there.

I'm a bit taken back for people to call Street Fighter, Tekken and even Dead or Alive Fan service. I will give the Dead or Alive Beach Volleyball series though, now that was a fanservice game. However the fighting genre is nowhere close to fanservice. .

What would you rather have in a fighting game? A bunch of realistic fighters using real martial arts? If you actually translated that into a game chances are it would be boring and over in about one minute. Now take all the fighting games that people love. Mortal Kombat, Tekken, Dead or Alive, Street fighter, King of fighters, Samurai Showdown, Marvel vs. Capcom, Blaze blue. I'm not even a fighting fan and I know there are tons more, although I will put the fanservice from Castlevania Judgement for the Wii under the running gag department, not fanservice. All of these games make people want to play them because of the WIDE variety of characters created each being unique and posessing powers that would not exist in reality.

Besides, saying fighting games are fanservice I have a question. What about the men? Dear god almighty we have in game videos of these guys showing off their biceps, pecs and abs. Jann-Lee from DOA have costumes that just show his bare physique and nobody wants to call that fanservice? If anything ladies get more of this acclaimed fanservice than men in fighting games. It is just a shame the ladies aren't attracted to Ken, Ryo, Kyo, Jann-Lee as much as Kasumi, or Tina...although I don't know if that would be a good thing.
The main difference between the Female and Male fanservice in fighting games is that muscles can actually help you win a fight. I highly doubt Ivy's double D's ever won her a fight in SC, but I can be damn sure Sigfried's muscles help him lift that giant ass sword

Changing the lore to make the game longer/more pointless/fit into plotholes.

I'm looking at you, WoW.

Good Fanservice: Completely rebuilding a game using higher technologies. Black Mesa Source is the example I use.

Bad Fanservice: Over 9000 sequels, prequels, novels, fan fictions and T-shirts at Hot Topic. Star Wars and Sonic come to mind.
HEY HEY HEY HEY
Don't diss the star wars novels!!!
Honestly, most of them suck.

I like the ones Timothy Zahn wrote, but most of the other things I read was about some lame ass plan to build 'an even better laser beam from the Death Star so we can win'. It was so sad and unimaginative to read. At least Zahn never had to use that to make it interesting. And that's what I like about his books. He took it seriously and crafted a good story. He didn't just turn the 'Death Star laser biggie' dial.

Well, Bleach certainly over-does the fanservice somewhat, but it's balanced out in the first sixty episodes. Once you get past about the hundredth episode (I continued to see if the plot was going to improve), however, the episodes become bleak voids where all the uninteresting characters wander around comparing tits and swords.

Also, History's Strongest Disciple: Kenichi has a lot of fanservice, but this is largely condensed into just two characters, and again, this is balanced by the great plot and awesome episodes. Almost all manga will probably have fanservice somewhere, but in my opinion, it's okay when it's got a good plot/content to balance it out.

Since people seem to be slinging around several definitions of fanservice I'll clarify that I'm calling it unnecessary close ups of naughty bits.
In which case, unless it's a hentai game, there's never a good time for it. Unless it's KOS-MOS. Give me KOS-MOS, some WD-40, and a floor buffer and I'll give you a good reason to reach for the Brain Bleach.
I don't really understand what you just said, but I think my tastes in anime were just insulted.
Uh, you haven't been insulted, unless the thought of some bizarre sexual act perpetrated on KOS-MOS with said WD-40 and floor buffer insults your sensibilities. I definitely need the Brain Bleach.

If you apply the logic the developers are using, giving Ivy big tits to sell games to dumb males, then her DDs have helped her win fights over every male opponent (and perhaps a few women) she has ever faced. Haven't you heard of Lust Induced Brain Freeze?

I don't know what a KOS-MOS is, but the involvement of WD-40 sounds kind of hot.

I'm annoyed that that is one of the only things they think of to draw in guys, but hey, they use it for a reason.

I guess if it's subtle and out of the way of the main game, like bonus items, then i'l tolerate it. It sucks not being able to play or watch something out of fear that all that all the fan service will get you trouble, or at least some strange faces. I can defend myself and the integrity of the game all I want, but once someone gets an opinion, its hard to change it.
