Ashamed? None of 'em.

Find much of the fanbase deplorable at times, on the other hand? All of them.
Sorry for quoting you, but oh my god, I totally just remembered how super pretty female Draenei are <3

>_>

<_<

Carry on. Nothing to see here.

Hmm, it really depends on the circumstances I guess. I'm a Transformer fanboy, and at times I want to slap some of my fellow fans hard in regards to their "RUINED FOREVER!!!!"-mentality. But then I shrug it off.
If there is one fanbase I'm ashamed to be a part of it might be gaming. Not because of whining, not because of amusing "My console/game/etc is best!", no no. Because of the mentality that gaming is still so slagging special, it's a superior work of super art that no one but WE FANS can understand. Only WE FANS have the true knowledge. THOSE OUTSIDERS can never understand it. Then the same people turn around and toss around a certain very popular word around. (Hint: Starts with an 'E')

That'd be being on the fringe (Well within the Reasonable Zone) of the furry fandom.

The drama, the bawwing, the persecution complex... Ach, no wonder we're the whipping boys of the internet, it must be a hoot to provoke such magnificent drama with so little effort. And things do get steadily creepier as you go deeper in... Wha'? Otherkin?

And although I wouldn't consider myself a brony (Mainly because it's a silly title, but also because I just enjoy the show, darnit) I do get a bit of sting in my heart when I see boatloads of 'em acting like idiots.

Well, to generalize first, I'd like to say that you will always find both level-headed and facepalmingly shameful examples of any following or fandom. The sad thing is that the shameful ones are often the loud, obnoxious types that people remember a whole lot more than the ones who otherwise act pretty normal about the whole thing.

That said, while I tend to avoid forums on the matter, I know there are Zelda fans out there who are ass-numbingly stupid. I enjoy the games highly(I suppose, that is to say, I enjoy the series' formula), but I'm not above acknowledging the flaws, because they're not perfect. Also, I don't know who the hell says this, but I disagree with whatever fan says that each game is merely the blueprint for the next, and therefore the current game shouldn't be treated with any complaints because the next one will fix any problems.

In general, though, I am a fan of visual media as a whole. Movies, games, animation, sequential art, the works, and I have seen depressing elitists and idiots from all walks of those lives.

It wouldn't be that I'm ashamed to be a part of a fanbase, it would be closer to say that I am ashamed to be of an era when the internet is at its most prominent, and gives way to the most stubborn, narrow-minded, and immature cretins who dwell in it.

I believe John Watson and Sherlock Holmes love each other, and were meant to be. (Specifically, the ones in the BBC show Sherlock.)

I'm a little ashamed of being part of that fandom. (Okay, more than a little)

Well it does make perfect sense.

if Im reading this correctly youre saying 90% were fine but 10% were "bad" (any specific examples?) that seems kind of unfair....the 90-10% ratio of normal to WTF is pretty much humanity in general..regardless of what they are into
Firstly what I'm saying is that the ratio out of 100 between guys to girls was 90/10.

Then out of that 90 about 80% of the guys made me feels a little embarrassed about being a gamer. Specific examples range from the obvious leering at girls and models or secretly trying to take their pictures, to self-entitled gamers talking in a really self-important way to developers, (developers who had actually spent time, money and effort producing games), telling them how their game could be improved or were shit, when they themselves had never produced anything in their lives. Ever.

The other 10% were typical slobs/scum of humanity that you can expect in almost any other human gathering, and I'm hoping the other 10% were cool guys who just weren't making themselves known.

Anyway, I'm probably being really harsh and unfair. I think it's just me - because I've been a gamer all my life and it was my dream to go to E3 so - being a self-entitled gamer like the ones I complain about - I was disappointed by what I saw. But it is my honest feeling and reaction and if I ever had a chance to go back to the show again, I would not go.

to be fair I think judging and critiqing games does not have anything to do with weather or not somone has produces a game..and I think that even goes for feedback and such

though I do kind of get what your saying

I don't know what to say though, I mean if that what they were like (though you cant judge too harshly on apearance alone) you were the one that was there

Sometimes I can't stand Thief fans. With how impatient people are getting with Thief 4 news, they can be really overzealous. So many of them will shun you and say you aren't a fan if you enjoyed the third game. Others will read the tiny tidbits of news and go "RUINED FOREVVERRRR" to the smallest change or innovation. Too many of them are stuck in 1998 and don't realize that there are things that can be improved on beyond the polygonal polio victim graphics. Unless it's an HD expansion of Thief 2, they will ***** and cry and moan. Yes, I do hope Thief 4 stays true to the formula and doesn't make Garrett a crazy action star, but people seem to forget that killing has always been an option. Garrett has been marketed with killing people before. If stealth is still there and well done, I don't care if there are more killing options. I don't care if we get little cinematics for knockouts. Yes, I still want the sprawly levels and great voice acting and scary atmosphere, but I look forward to innovation.

Gaming itself has it's fair share of people I wish I wasn't associated with by choice of hobby.

The internet has taught me that there are always people who like something I like and odds are, at least one of them is a less than likeable person. I'm embarrassed by them on occasion, but I'm not ashamed of my likes in particular.

NOTHING if it was shameful I would not be associated with it.

I am not very open about playing WH40k in my school because it is heavily persecuted, because the people who are open about it are some sweaty weirdos, who have ruined it for anyone else, and made it something associated with people like them. But I am not at all ashamed I play it.

As for Mass Effect yes Bioware is allowed to do what they like with it. But everyone (me included) felt the last 5 mins did fuck it all up, it is widely regarded the shittest ending of all video gaming. If that is not something to be changed I don't know what is.

The only thing you should be ashamed of being a fan of is football (not soccer Americans dont take it AS seriously as the British do), because the behaviour of the fans is nothing short of appalling, people have died in fan club animosity fights because of it for fucks sake. I do sympathise with non-violent football fans, but they are usually all loud, annoying and drunk out of their skulls.

I am also quite ashamed to be associated with mass effect fans. Although I believe the ending was kinda crappy and could use more info on what happens after, I think all the nerd rage and online petitions are stupid. I'm just waiting for the extended cut DLC. They can wait all they want to make that ending, I just want it to involve your squadmates more.
