I just want to make a point here. EVERY...SINGLE...ONE of my friends who owns an Xbox 360 or PS3 immediately hates it's opposite. I do not have a single friend who accepts the both of them as great consoles. I tell my friends who have a 360, "I might get a PS3", and their immediate response is either "WHY?!?" or "PS3's shit". Is there some kind of binding contract for 360 and PS3 owners that forces them to hate the other? Or is it that they feel a need to justify their purchase? Is it not possible to own one of them yet still accept the other as a great console?

EDIT: Ford vs Holden, Shaken vs Stirred, Beer vs Liquor, the list is infinite and infantile.
That's the most accurate statement I've heard all day.

:) Tell them to get PCs. You couldn't really call me a fanboy-i'm more of an elitist. The intervention by a third party usually solves rivalries.

Im a ps3 owner..

Yes i prefer it over the xbox, not really for the console itself, but for the controllers.
No matter how much i play xbox, i can never get my hands around that controller in a proper manner.. If xbox had ps controllers it wouldn't really matter what console i had.

Also it is sometimes funny to act as a fanboy just to piss real fanboys off, they get angry so easily.. hehe..

But as previous stated, infinite and infantile..

I can never understand how people can get so angry over a gaming system, its not as if owning a ps3 over a 360 makes you a more superior person.

I second this emotion. I just wish they'd stop upping the graphics requirements for every new freakin' game that comes out for the PC.

It's part of human nature. A ugly part of it.

As bad as gamers are about it, nothing is worse then sports fanboys. I've seen people get into fist fights about what team was better, and news reports overs gun fights about it. Riots when a team loses/wins, full blown riots with looting, pillaging and shoot outs.

It's a strange part of our nature to latch onto brands and organizations. What country you're from, coke or pepsi, duracell or energizer, republican or democrat, the list goes on and on

I think Microsoft and Sony do it deliberately to a certain degree... If they can build up a large fanbase of PS obsessives or Xbox obsessives then they're much more likely to sell more units when the new generation consoles come out (not that we really need them right now). Case in point is the games that stupidly come out as PS3 or 360 exclusives. I'm a 360 owner for no reason other than preferring the controllers and the lower price tag, and seeing games like resistance 2 and killzone 2 coming out as PS3 exclusives just pisses me off. If only i had the money to own both...

People who so feverently defend their chosen console often do so because they can only afford one (fair enough), and feel the need to continuously justify to themselves that they made the right choice.

My friends and I do this too, but more jokingly than what you seem to be implying. I have a PS3 and a Wii and I want to get an Xbox as well, but can't afford it just yet. My friends all have various different consoles, and one already owns all three. The console wars are basically just a joke to us, and I don't see why it'd be so important. They're just games, people. (please don't murder me for saying that on the Escapist forums)

I hate PS3 fans and their makers. And Blu-Ray. I don't hate the PS3. Most likely I will eventually own a PS3. Maybe not. Dunno. I favored PS2 over Xbox though, but I wanted the 360 because I wanted Oblivion (would not be on PS3 till much later) and also it was cheaper and I had no use of Blu-Ray and never will. If the PS3 was cheaper and had Oblivion from the start and did not have all these bad gimmicks (blu-ray and motion controls that have not been mentioned or seen in forever) I would probably have gotten it instead. (I love achievements but that was not until I unlocked my first one before I knew what they were)

I don't see game exclusivity as a problem - if theres a system war, there has to be exclusive games - else not only would console hardware never be properly used; but companies would not have the games required to claim their console is superior.

Microsoft and Sony most certainly encourage it as it is a free form of advertising, if you have some pathetic fanboy crying about how their console is somehow superior; people who don't own a console might see that and base their purchase of that fanboy's words.

Gaming sites such as IGN also actively encourage, not because they gain anything from the companies, but because if you spend longer on their site arguing about consoles, they get advertising money.

Its all about money - I seriously doubt the Microsoft and Sony press would bash the other consoles literally; in my opinion its all a con to make more fanboy's, more advertising - and more money.
