Hey this is mine first thread i posted on this site . i don't know if any one did a topic on this . I wanted to put my 2 cents on the matter. Why are we gamers so busy fighting each other which has the better system instead of trying to have fun. i remember when i was a kid playing street fighter 2 championship edition on the genesis it didn't matter to me that the snes and arcade versions were better.[i didn't know that the time.] All that matter was having fun and getting better at it . Yet gamers today fight over which version is better.

I not saying you can't a preferred system. [ I got ps3,xbox 360,wii,ds ,and the psp. i like them all. ps3 is my preferred system and psp is favorite hand held. Each of these systems and hand helds has pros and cons . There is no perfect system that clearly beats all others in all categories.another thing that bugs me is these pc gamer elitist that say that all consoles are garbage. they also that the pc is the most supreme gaming machine ever. we all know that a gaming pc has better graphics than the consoles.[why state the obvious? how are consoles which are updated every 5 to 6 years supposed to out do pcs which are updated 24/7.] why do we gamers have factions? we are all playing games just on different machines and controls. So why don't we chill out and play some games. Have some fun. If this does not apply to you then consider yourself lucky if not. "Why all the hate?"

Because some people can't afford all the systems.

EDIT: I actually own all 3 major consoles... So this wasn't my own excuse for disliking a certain one of the three

Because they had to commit and dang it they have to be right about which one they committed to. That was their hard earned money that they got from their mommies for taking out the vacuum cleaner EVERY SATURDAY for three whole weeks! How can you not respect their right to be completely correct about everything. Seriously they know everything, they can even see the FUTURE. its scary the mystical powers bestowed upon them by their ego's but we must accept to live in this world, serving our all powerful console fanboy overlords.

unfortunately I have now brought myself down to their level and shall be shamed for my insolence.

Neither can I. Yet I find no reason to diss the PS3 for not having enough games and the usual BS. In fact I look at...wait for it... the positive aspects of the system.

I know, shocking.

And cos the actual GAMERS!!! you speak of have finished all the games that are worth playing and have nothing better to do then argue. But im going to put in my 2 cents 2 if everybody else is. I work for a company that sells games and consoles and i have come up with this...

Situation 1:
Customer: Yea im looking to buy one of the new gaming consoles?
me: Ok then do you have any experience with gaming consoles or what do you know about them?
Customer: Well i used to have an (whatever) but all my friends have gone to a (what ever) and all say i should play online.
Me: Well friends are a lead point (i will use 360 as this happens most for the 360) But the 360 online play is fantastic and easily manageable to talk to friend etc, but it does have pay to play online, which alot of people will agree its worth it for the quality.
Long discussion
Me: so will it just be for gaming?
customer: Well yea i suppose i already have a dvd player and the 360 can play DVDs cant it
me: why yes it can, which model 360 u looking at etc

Situation 2
Customer: Yea im looking to buy one of the new gaming consoles?
me: Ok then do you have any experience with gaming consoles or what do you know about them?
Customer: Well i just purchased a $6000 television set with FUll HD (they always make them selves sound so important) ANd i was wondering what has the best quality?
Me: well the PS3 would most likely be what you are after due to bluray player etc

situation 3
Customer: Yea im looking to buy one of the new gaming consoles? i have family coming down and i need to entertain them!!!
me: Ok then do you have a girlfriend by any chance?
customer: yes why do you ask?
me: well (describe the Wii in all its terrible glory!!!!) (i dont actually hate the Wii, i think its a great console, BUT it needs a shitload of work to compete with everything else).

Thats my 2 cents. Everone else was doin it i just wanted to be popular.

plus, half of the fun of discussion is arguing about things. opinions count on things like this, or it'd just be one long discussion about how great every game is, which i'm sure we can agree they aren't. it's good to have arguments, and i wouldn't say there's any real hate or it'd be extremely petty. from my point of view at least, it's just a bit of light-hearted fun :)

My TV is sony my stereo is sony my car stereo is sony i had a ps1 and a ps2 and i brought the ps3 not because of brand loyalty but because i have never had any problems with sony in the past. i'll be the first to admit games are a bit thin on the ground and some of the online gamers are idiots but every console has faults which any true gamer will admit to but the fanboys are so blinkered they cant see past the murky brown graphics into the harsh reality beyond. BTW its not just consoles car boys are far far worse!

The simple fact is that they are fanboys. A fanboy is a term used to describe any individual who is devoted to a single subject in an emotional or fanatical manner, or to a single point of view within that subject, often to the point where it is considered an obsession. People like this can't be reasoned with because they already think you're wrong. In the end, it's best just to try to side-step them. But if we are going to dissect them, then lets try to be slightly organized.

"The Console Wars" are the biggest problem. Most fanboys believe in this concept, the thought that all of the current video game systems are at war with each other for bragging rights of best console for that generation. If you believe in this, then you are a fanboy. Sure, consoles are fighting over price, but each console has something the other doesn't, and each is tailored to a certain type of gamer. Each person's experience will be different. Normal people are able to accept this. I have a friend at work who's a huge Sony fanboy. When he mentioned there were a couple of games he wanted that were 360 only, I asked him why he just didn't pick one up. His response: "It's made by Microsoft." Well so is the operating system you're running on your computer. It's this inane thought that just because a console doesn't have one thing or is made by a certain company that it becomes bad in their eyes.

The next type of fanboyism is based in gaming companies and gaming genres. Like the consoles, a person connects to a certain game company or genre, and refuses to admit any game can reach that plateau. Each game company and each genre has its advantages and disadvantages. Same friend from the previous paragraph would not pick up Metroid Prime because it was a FPS and had "now become a ruined game." Its also the same people who latch onto a certain company, we'll use Valve as an example. Yes, TF2 and L4D were great games, but they're not without flaws, some of them large and gaping. There are people who claim Ocarina of Time was a perfect game, but there are some flaws. No game is perfect.

The final fanboyism, in my opinion (yes opinions, they're amazing, aren't they?) is the old school/new school issue. Some fanboys refuse to admit that anything past the Super Nintendo is worth while, while on the other side of the coin there are people who won't play anything that didn't spawn in the 21th century. This is very bad because its on the same level as saying "we haven't progressed enough and we're progressing backwards," or "progress means forgetting about the past," respectively. Each generation of gaming has its hits and misses. For the Genesis, I loved Castlevania Bloodlines, and I still play it. For the PS2, I enjoy popping into Shadow of the Colossus every once and a while. It all depends on gamers tastes. Just because something isn't in 3D or takes more than an hour to beat doesn't make it bad.

In the end, its all about opinions. You choose who you want to be, what games to play, and whether or not you are a fanboy. Gaming is an open garden with as many choices as blueberries, so walk in and savor everything.

Rather shocking, indeed. I have none of the consoles (only a sucky PC), yet I never take on the "Mighty and Benevolent PC Gaming God", not in the least because I'd feel like a moron doing so.

Every console has its pros and cons. Even if you are too poor to afford more than one, which is the norm in my country (Why hello there average monthly salary of 250 euros! Nice to meet you!) just go with either the friends or the games. If you have no friends playing a certain console, or if they're only playing single player - hell, go for the one they don't have, you can share! It's not like most games don't come out for all platforms, save for a few precious exclusives.

If I were to buy a console right now, it'd be the Xbox 360, but only because its quite a lot cheaper here, and I prefer its exclusives.

yeah i get that, but it's kinda inevitable if you think about it. everyone has a favourite. i have a 360, but i want a ps3 and my gf has a wii so i like playing that too. people just like what they like, and that's up to them. i personally like playing games, couldn't give a shit what console they're on as long as they're good. if people do, let them. don't let it bother you! :)

I find that most fanboyism is caused by misinformation. I used to be a major Nintendo fanboy back in the SNES days, thinking that the SEGA Genesis was nothing but a box of garbage that wouldn't play games reliably, meant for people who just wanted to see buckets of blood fly everywhere...until I played one. After that, I noticed that, while each console had their differences, they both played very well, and they both had great games to play. Now I do my research before I buy a console.

The problem that arises from misinformation is fanboys won't listen to the facts. They have to have something in their minds that makes everything else inferior to what they consider great. They have to be right. If you do try to set the record straight, they typically reply with "you made that up" or "that's not what I read." If people don't listen to the facts, then these factions start building larger and larger, creating the biggest poo-flinging fight since monkeys ruled the Earth. And it will only get worse.

it doesn't bother me much . i just think is retarded. i have fun with my games.today just cannot compare to how it used to be when the snes fanboys and gens fanboys got along and the played the other systems . those days are long gone. sigh
