I find that most fanboyism is caused by misinformation. I used to be a major Nintendo fanboy back in the SNES days, thinking that the SEGA Genesis was nothing but a box of garbage that wouldn't play games reliably, meant for people who just wanted to see buckets of blood fly everywhere...until I played one. After that, I noticed that, while each console had their differences, they both played very well, and they both had great games to play. Now I do my research before I buy a console.

The problem that arises from misinformation is fanboys won't listen to the facts. They have to have something in their minds that makes everything else inferior to what they consider great. They have to be right. If you do try to set the record straight, they typically reply with "you made that up" or "that's not what I read." If people don't listen to the facts, then these factions start building larger and larger, creating the biggest poo-flinging fight since monkeys ruled the Earth. And it will only get worse.
yeah your right. i was a genesis boy myself but played the snes every chance i had.

I hate on consoles because there are times when games that could have been great, are dumbed down for consoles. Thief: Deadly Shadows, for example. Oblivion. Halo series got moved onto 360 entirely. Mass Effect was delayed and the fans lied to (told there wouldn't be a PC version).

That said, I own a 360 and it's the main console I hate on. I don't see good PC series getting moved over to/dumbed down for the PS3 or the Wii, so I don't mind them.

I'm just sick of being considered a fanboy because I like Nintendo enough to invest in the company (for various reasons that would recieve an uninformed rebuttal simply for the fact that its Nintendo).

I mean, no, not all the games were fun, and I bought my Wii and two GOOD games and played it for just as many days before having it sit out the game in my wall locker, but thats simply because I don't have alot of time. I play my PS2 more often than anything else because while I did have to buy 1000 (exaggeration) games for it, 24 of them were actually good.

*Stamps a huge "IN MY OPINION!!" to that last statement*

I figure if I play a game and like it, then its a good game, despite the console. I also happen to consider Nintendo a great thing, based upon my history with the consoles and games. Thats fanboy-ish you say? Oh, well I hope Satan has the highest pantheon of hell reserved for me because I'm sure as hell not begging God for forgiveness on that account. XD

PSP DJ Max Portable games FTW, btw. Yeah, I threw that in. Music games are just awesome, IMO.

I don't really feel like defending the PS3 since I won it for free and I am a *gasp* CASUAL GAMER who only has a PS3 because he won a blogging competition. I was actually originally going to get an Xbox 360, honest. But the PS3 has grown on me, and I play mates' Xbox 360s when I visit my brother's Uni dorm up north.

I also once considered the DS Lite to be a great console but now I fear Nintendo will discontinue support for it and I will have to buy a DSi with gimped functionality just to play the newer handheld games from them. I like my DS Lite I just worry its battery pack will die eventually and I won't be able to use it... T____T

If there were system wars before this generation, I didn't even know about them.

When I first started shopping, I was leaning more towards the 360 with it's ability to have custom soundtracks with every game and the consumer development kit-or whatever they call it.

What made me buy a ps3 was the more reliable hardware, free online, and the BR player; but I didn't yet hate the 360.

I still don't hate the 360 or its users, just the people who made and marketed it. I have quite a few friends who have 360s and we always have fun playing on them but one friend got the rrod twice and just recently a different friend's machine succumbed. What makes me angry is that there is more than a hint of truth to the rumor laid out by an ex-MS employee that they knew about the rrod and pushed the system onto shelves without fixing it because they wanted to have the year's jump on the competition. Sure its a brilliant business move in the short term but it's a punch in the face to their customers and in the long term is turning out to be a drain on the corporation as a whole for the shareholders with all of the free shipping and repairing being done.

So what really pisses me off is the feeling that friends of mine got taken advantage of for being neophiles who got the 360 because it was first.
It's the same (consumer advocate) part of me that hates gameslop for ripping off gamers and harassing anyone who walks into their store.

I can hardly be called a sony fanboy though: I avoided the ps2 until it's hardware issues were fixed too, I think most of the ps3 big exclusive games are vastly overrated, and I think Phil Harrison is a complete idiot; yes still.

Then again a lot of the hard core 360 fanboys can be pretty obnoxious about having the better big exclusive titles and (what turned out to be pretty lackluster) dlc for the aaa titles. Is that the way ps2 fanboys were last gen?
