We've seen them on the internet, but meting one in real life is much worse I tell you.
If halo is baby's first FPS, then is Final Fantasy 7 baby's first RPG?
What I mean is that the first game a person plays in a certain genre or series will likely be their favorite. I'm a victim of this too. Halo is immensily popular for several reasons but we can't ignore the fact that it was the first shooting game for a lot of gamers.
but back to FF7, I've played the game when I was a kid and it was my 2nd or 3rd final fantasy game. I did not enjoy it but that was because of a lot of reasons. Skip to around a decade later, and I'm on the internet. And I find out that FF7 is the best in the series! While my beloved FF12 and FF8 are recognized as the bad games in the series!
I was at a game store and two guys were talking about FF12, one was thinking about buying it for $10 and I said to go for it. I reccomended the game and explain a lot about it, and his friend said "no it sucks don't buy it! don't listen to him!"
I asked him why he didn't like it and he just listed the various systems in the game, without explainig it (loot sucks liscences suck gambits suck etc). As expected he said his favorite was FF7 when I asked him.
I told him that FF7 was baby's first RPG, and a kid like him (he was around 15) wouldn't understand what he was talking about unless he played the older ones or another 3D game other than 7 and 12 (not even sure if he played 12). His main argument was that FF12 was 'too different'.
hold up, isn't every final fantasy different from each other?
1-6 on the NEs and SNES are more or less the backbone for turn taking RPG. honestly its been too long since playing so I don't remember and I get the numbers mixed up, but I've played at least 3 of them.
7 has materia, and you can raise the characters how you want.
8 had GF raising, junction, and drawing, and again you could mold everyone to you liking.
9 went back to specific classes, and had the equipment teaching you spells and skills.
I could go on but you get the idea, all the FF games have some new system that makes it unique. I told him that saying FF12 is too different is typical for someone to say if they only played 7 well after its time just to fit in.
He wouldn't listen and still thought that FF12 (sucked), so I asked him what he thought of Basch, since I thought he was a cool character. He didn't know who I was talking about, then I realized I was dealing with a fanboy if he barely played the game.
