We've seen them on the internet, but meting one in real life is much worse I tell you.

If halo is baby's first FPS, then is Final Fantasy 7 baby's first RPG?

What I mean is that the first game a person plays in a certain genre or series will likely be their favorite. I'm a victim of this too. Halo is immensily popular for several reasons but we can't ignore the fact that it was the first shooting game for a lot of gamers.

but back to FF7, I've played the game when I was a kid and it was my 2nd or 3rd final fantasy game. I did not enjoy it but that was because of a lot of reasons. Skip to around a decade later, and I'm on the internet. And I find out that FF7 is the best in the series! While my beloved FF12 and FF8 are recognized as the bad games in the series!

I was at a game store and two guys were talking about FF12, one was thinking about buying it for $10 and I said to go for it. I reccomended the game and explain a lot about it, and his friend said "no it sucks don't buy it! don't listen to him!"

I asked him why he didn't like it and he just listed the various systems in the game, without explainig it (loot sucks liscences suck gambits suck etc). As expected he said his favorite was FF7 when I asked him.

I told him that FF7 was baby's first RPG, and a kid like him (he was around 15) wouldn't understand what he was talking about unless he played the older ones or another 3D game other than 7 and 12 (not even sure if he played 12). His main argument was that FF12 was 'too different'.

hold up, isn't every final fantasy different from each other?
1-6 on the NEs and SNES are more or less the backbone for turn taking RPG. honestly its been too long since playing so I don't remember and I get the numbers mixed up, but I've played at least 3 of them.
7 has materia, and you can raise the characters how you want.
8 had GF raising, junction, and drawing, and again you could mold everyone to you liking.
9 went back to specific classes, and had the equipment teaching you spells and skills.
I could go on but you get the idea, all the FF games have some new system that makes it unique. I told him that saying FF12 is too different is typical for someone to say if they only played 7 well after its time just to fit in.

He wouldn't listen and still thought that FF12 (sucked), so I asked him what he thought of Basch, since I thought he was a cool character. He didn't know who I was talking about, then I realized I was dealing with a fanboy if he barely played the game.

I know what you mean, trying to recommend Halo 3 to someone, with an avid CoD fan nearby is never a good idea.

"Woah, woah! You don't have killstreaks, or perks! What the fuck kind of shit is that? Your just some ****** spacemen jumping around in the sky and using toy guns. No-one plays Halo, it's rubbish and good for nothing. Plus, World At War proved that vehicles don't work. So there."

I've met people like this in real life, and it almost always is at the Gamestop. In fact, the Gamestop employees can be frustratingly this way.

They try to get you to pre-order something. Let's say it's a sequel. You mention you hated the first one. They begin to question your intelligence because, "OMG, that game was like, the best evar!"

It's very annoying. If I don't like a game, it's because I have played it and found it to be lacking. You aren't going to change my mind by acting like I'm an idiot. You are only going to make me associate your bad behavior with that game, furthering my dislike of it.

Wow that sucks man. I've played XII through and I hate it but at least my hatred is informed. Basch and Balthier were awesome characters though. VII was ok if anything. IX was the best IMO, followed by Tactics and VIII. :D

Yeah I've seen this hatred about JRPGs in general. Gotten in a couple arguments at Gamestop with other customers where their prime argument is "It's a JRPG so it's bad." Luckily I know enough and the Gamestop employees take my side every time. :p

I have a friend/officemate that is a rabid Nintendo fanboy that can be tough to deal with at times. For the record, I like Nintendo too, but I don't think the company or its games are free from all criticism. Anyway, on Wednesday I was listening to the new Zero Punctuation on Mario Galaxy 2, and he threw a freaking fit. In my years of dealing with his fanboyism, I find that just ignoring him when he does that works best because if I don't, he just shouts the same things over and over and gets louder and louder every time.

I just think back to that saying (I think this is how it goes): "When you argue with an idiot, people will have a hard time telling just who is the idiot."

Yeah, I find if you go to a bad game shop, the employees will occasionally question or criticize your choice of games. So I just go to a new gamestop that opened like a mile from my house (biking distance, woot!) where the employees might say "oh that's a good game" or keep their mouths shut. Everybody wins that way.

For the record, I've played 9 out of the 13 main FF titles out there and still say VII was my favourite, it doesnt make me a fanboy (at least in a sane world) its just VII was the one that really drew me in, its not perfect, but nothing is yet to achieve the unanimous universal vote of "WOOOOOW"!

I still hate the term "fanboy", it seems that these days you cant actually really like something without being a touted as a fanboy, it seems to scream of just being a bad run-off from the console wars. I recommended Batman: AA to a friend a few weeks back, while another nearby friend (who didnt like it) said it was trash and called me a "Batman fanboy"...........yeah

Surely it hasnt extended this far has it? Calling someone a fanboy because they like something you didn't, its one step below attempted flaming in my opinion.

Sounds like arguing with a religious person.

And yeah, that's stupid.

I like "When you argue with an idiot, they'll drag you down to their level and beat you with experience" :D

Fanboys are everywhere and I get accused of it all the time too. I find that really funny because I have every console except PSP and I have a gaming PC as well. When I defend XBox I'm a twitch gaming fanboy, when I defend nintendo I'm a casual gamer or a Mario/Zelda fanboy, when I defend PS3 I'm a GoW fanboy and when I defend the PC then I'm a computer snob.

I've been gaming since 1983 and I will say that, if anything, I may be a gaming fanboy but that doesn't mean that I blindly defend gaming. I counter arguments by defending gaming on it's own merits. I see the drawbacks and the benefits. It's not a perfect passtime but it is a good one.

Men tend to be very loyal to brands and franchises and people in general have a deep need to justify the time they've spent in their persuits as valid as to show otherwiswe would be to display a portuion of their finite life wasted. These two things in combination (usually along with little education) tend to give birth to fanboys.

Incedentally, a friend of mine who is also a physics major defends the science of Star trek as if it were valid even though he knows it's written primarily by people with English dgress and it goes against huge portions of verified modern theory just because he is a Star trek fanboy. What I'm saying is that my comment above about education is not meant to be an absolute statement as he has his BS in physics and is now persuing a graduate degree in it as well.

The internet isn't real? Cool.

Anyway, yes, a friend of mine not only doesn't accept that MW2 isn't the best game ever (it's his opinion, whatever) but he also beliefs every other game fucking sucks, and they're all tied for worst. He even turns his back on the older COD's, even though he used to like them.

It's annoying when he interjects himself (and MW2) into every conversation remotely related to gaming. "So I was looking at this new headset..." "MW2 is much better with a headset, you can hear enemy footsteps and the revolutionary sound design really shines through."

I would have to say that MW2 fanboys are the worst kind of fanboys, and it's because of situations like you described.

I have seen that sort of thing happen time and again.

"You know MW2 is better than 'X' because of such and such."

When they have never even played game 'X' before.

I've played MW2. It's not all that great, and nothing within the game is anything that I would deem to be, "Revolutionary." Best of luck in your struggle to keep from punching your friend in the face. I know I have that problem with a MW2 fanboy that I know.

This has been said, but MW2 fanboys make fun of all the games I play (up to and including MW1) for bad graphics and for not having unbalanced perks. And yes, I do mean ALL of the games I play. Not one I mention to a COD fanboy is free from their criticism.

I only resisted by punching him in the stomach and kicking him in the shin.

I never understood why FFVIII was seen as one of the worst in the series. Then again, it has to live in it's older brother's shadow but it's still an amazing game.

I know a guy who used to be a massive 360 fanboy. I finally got him to try out the PS3 and he stopped being so bad about it. He sees the positives and negatives of both consoles and we can even laugh about some of the problems with the consoles that we have.

I hate people that I know personally being fanboys because their harder to ignore. On the internet, all it takes is closing the page. It's a lot harder when the person is standing in front of you.

Admittedly, I am borderline fanboy when it comes to Golden Sun. But I can see why it's not for everyone, and I don't think it's the coming of Jesus. It's simply my favorite game and I think that it's really good.

When I was in high school the big game was Diablo 2. Everyone was playing Diablo 2. They lived, breathed, ate, and slept Diablo 2. And if you didn't play Diablo 2 then Fuck you.

Somebody once spent three minutes trying to explain to me that "XBox 360 is a scam." He told me to get a PS3 because they "Never break." There was also an instance where I heard two people talking about playing Halo, and this random guy turns around and screams "XBox 360's are for faggots!"

I remember a while ago I found an article (I think by gamespy) which was "The Most overated games of all time list". I flew into a fanboy-esque rage when I saw FF VII on there and few of my other favourite games.
