Fanboys, seriously who cares?

Look I understand when someone attacks your race, culture, gender, ethnicity, sexual preference, religion, people feel a need to step up to the plate and defend themselves and those like them. I get that much. But what I can't seem to wrap my head around is fanboyism. People who yell, cry, and scream over things that they had no part in making or creating such as movies, music, and especially video games. When I see Xbox 360 owners and PS3 owners trying to incite war over who has a better console I'm just dumbfounded. And honestly who cares? Why do people feel pressured to step up to the plate to devalue one's property so they can feel superior about theirs? If you need an example, look at IGN who recently published an article about how Gears of War 3 will be Xbox 360 exclusive and not on the PS3. Just scroll through the comments section. http://xbox360.ign.com/articles/117/1176501p1.html I would really like to hear some insight from you guys and why this sort of thing happens.

Preaching to the choir. It's usually just kids or really insecure people who are fanboys. If you can only have one console then you might try to justify your decision to everyone in order to convince yourself that you made the right choice.

You apparently care since it bothered you enough to make a topic about it.

Why should people like you care? It affects you in no way, let them fight.

why do people support sports teams? They're not the ones out there on the pitch. Internet flame wars is just the gamer/movie buff's equivalent of rioting after a football match - more memes, less property damage.

There's something in us that makes us want to be part of a tribe, and frequently the tribe is defined by what it's opposed to as much as by what it's for. It's nothing new - in ancient Rome the supporters of rival chariot racing teams would riot after a day at the races.

It's hardwired into humans to have an "Us vs them" mentality for everything. It's broadly the cause of about 50% of all our problems. (the other 50% being a mixture of greed and general dumbassery)

Why it happens? dont know im no psychologist but generally it seems to be one-upmanship to try and enforce your preference/choice/game/console/religion/team/opinion on someone else so you can justify to yourself that you are correct and obviously the more you have invested and/or been indocrinated in something the angrier you will be when someone disparages it (however slight).

Eventually with escalation it degenerates into stupid pointless completely uninformed arguments (basically contradiction) and potential violence because the fools wont except virtual boy as the greatest console eva.

It seems the more people involved the worse the arguments get probably due to lowest common denominator stuff but with consoles it generally dosent concern enough people to get beyond nasty name calling and hollow threats.

so yeah anyway in my completely uninformed and unprofessional opinion its human nature its not going away so ignore it or feed it or whatever I personally have great fun making ridiculous (obviously untrue) comments when I meet them one of them face to face and watching them take the bait works with football supporters too (although you have to be careful some of them dont have a sense of humour).I just love to play devils advocate sometimes especially when its so easy.

Try hanging around an Apple fanboy while using your gadgets and tech. You run into a single technical snag while he is looking and you're screwed.

Ever called them out on a tech issue? I've heard the phrase "Nah, it's just a minor glitch that doesn't really affect it in any real way" a lot more times than I have the phrase "That wouldn't have happened on my iPhone".

OT: I want you to pay very, very, very Very VERY VERY VERY close attention to the following image

I think that sums it up

I tend to defend certain games mostly because for some reason my intelligence is called into question for liking a game.

Liking a game has nothing to do with intelligence. I find this particular argument against personal opinions to be lazy and annoying. I get it, you don't like CoD. That doesn't mean people who do are idiots. If you call me and idiot, yeah, I'm probably going to defend myself.

tl;dr

but Fanboys was a good movie...

although skimming tells me you're referring to console/pc fanboys and the fervor with which they defend their $300 investments in their spare time, then yes I agree, thats crazy.

As I've said many times before, this is a big reason why I stick to the handhelds. Handheld gamers are still often looked down upon by the console warriors, but at least the handheld community is relatively peaceful. In the DS/PSP days, (which are sadly ending) it was pretty much the most peaceful two competing fanbases ever got. Both systems had great games, and for the most part both sides of the battle agreed on that. Though what with the 3DS and PS Vita being so close together in terms of release, I think it's going to be a pretty intense battle during the early days of those systems.

at the moment there reason maybe if there PC gamers that they fear that big devlopers may leave the platform and belive that they seek worship to stay with that platform. if there concle gamers a honestly don't know there reasoning.

this is wear I start getting of track but explains my orginal arguement and if you have a better reason tell me. (other than there stupid or ignorant or crazy)

In fact that won't help and if there going to leave the platform is that they fear piracy and used game sales and also that concles have a larger amount of gamers than PC. Most of this argument is flawed piracy is a problem on all platforms. used sales can't be used because 90% of games are bought digitaly and can be returned. the latter is a fact that i can't argue with but within a few mouths the game will be threwn in the bargin bin while on Steam they have a longer shelf life.

basically
concles are for short term happyness
while PC is for long term survival

'Cos most people only have the spare funds to have one. Therefore they try and justify their choice till they are blue in the face.

Just because a man is white doesn't mean he can't stand up for civil rights. And just because a man is a man doesn't mean he shouldn't support equal treatment to women. If you agree with something, then it's your right, and sometimes even your job to defend it.
