If you like Branden Sanderson and George R. R. Martin I highly recommend Elizabeth Moon's Paksinarion books, the first in the series is Sheep Farmer's Daughter.

Try anything by David Gemmell, maybe start with 'Legend'.
Not 'High' Fantasy, but still well worth a read.
Closer to George R. R. Martin than J. R. R. Tolkein.

That's a lot of Rs.

Codex Alera by Jim Butcher. Great humor, roman influences, and magic spirits that suspiciously remind me of pokemon. Sweet series.
Then there are the fall backs of the Sword of Truth and Wheel of Time...the last 3 books of the latter having been written by your Brandon Sanderson.
These are also good ones.
And the list could go on...

Pretty much just try any fantasy series you hear about, see if you like them. It's not like there's a shortage of good fantasy series or anything.

I suggest Setven Erikson's Malazan Book of the Fallen series. I've only read the first two so far, but they've been really good (though long) books with lots of rich, well-rounded characters and lore.

Bartimaeus Trilogy. Really, really good. It's Arabian Nights meets borderline steampunk. Fantastic atmosphere, brilliant characterization, amazing writing. Check it out.

I've started reading Conan recently, which I'm really enjoying, so you could give that a try.

If not, LoTR.

Terry Brooks is the first one that comes to mind, starting with the Sword of Shannara. He's written a lot of books and on the whole, they're consistently good.

Could also try reading Tailchaser's Song by Tad Williams or the Last Unicorn by Peter S. Beagle. Infinitely better than the movie that came out a while back.

I'd go with Terry Pratchet and Dianne Wynne Jones mostly because how they refuse to adhere to the rancid corpse that is High Fantasy. They are very unique as fantasy writers.

i would have to agree with s0m3t1ng and say the sword of truth series by terry goodkind.

i have read all 11 of them at least twice and some of them five or six times... not to mention the prequal or his new series that are almost related in a way i wont/kant tell u. they are all very well writen with a kaptivateing storieline and very rich in detail. i partikularly like goodkinds take on magik and how it works.

the first book is kalled wizards first rule

Raymond E. Feist's [http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Raymond_E._Feist#Riftwar_Cycle] Riftwar Cycle is interesting, and there are quite a few of 'em. I haven't read the entire series, mind you... just the Riftwar Saga, the Conclave of Shadows, and the Darkwar Saga... never really looked for the rest.
Agreed! Feist is great. I read the Riftwar Saga and loved it. Just started the Krondor series, and its very good so far.

OP,you might try David Gemmel too, he is quite basic, but fun none the less.

As always for these kind of threads my recommendations shall be: The Abhorsen Chronicles, Sabriel, Lireal and Abhorsen, a fantasy trilogy written by Garth Nix and by far the best damn fantasy books I have ever read in my life. Pretty cheap nowadays off Amazon too, also try Mogworld it's a great book and absolutely hilarious.

You could try the Night Angel trilogy by Brent Weeks (or his stand alone novel The Black Prism) but I doubt it that you will consider him any good when compared to the authors listed in your first post.

Heh...my apologies? ;) I enjoyed the Night Angel Trilogy....but then I picked up Patrick Rothfuss' The Name of the Wind (and later The Wise Man's Fear)...and I forgot all about Brent Weeks. I might get The Black Prism though. Did you read it? If you did, would you recommend it and why?

EDIT: I was mistaken...The Black Prism is the start of a new trilogy.
