Far Cry 3 looks like a mix of 1 and 2

Yeah, those are some pretty mad rambo skills for an average Joe! I really like the knife throwing and silent kills, that is what true stealth is. Contrary to popular belief, a silenced pistol can probably still be heard within quite a large distance, they don't silence a weapon to be almost heard, it only makes it harder to tell where the shot came from.

Which is something that should still affect the AI mind you, I know in FC2 every mofo in the continent could pinpoint your location if you so much as turn the safety off, so this could be something to take into account given the large locations and ample flanking opportunities.
Maybe if we could just beat the whole misnomer "silencer" to death people would understand the effect they actually have. They're called suppressors for a reason, they don't bring the noise down to a fly flatulating. Even military grade ones can still be heard from at least a hundred yards, depending on the gun.

But, on topic, I was just playing Far Cry 2 today, incidentally, and was brutally reminded of the AI's infrared x-ray telescopic super vision and sonar-equipped cat ears.

OK, this is a pet peeve of mine. The enemies in Far Cry 2 could not see through the bushes. I've tested it out multiple times. What they could do was identify you at long ranges amidst tangled foliage as long as they had a line-of-sight on you.

Back on topic slightly, does anyone know when this might be due out? And does anyone know the criteria by which those "kill points" scores are earned? I think it's separate to the money that you loot off dead bodies after, is the kill points based on stealth, range, or something else? Reminds me of the style kills in Bulletstorm, though I doubt this game is anything like that. Maybe it's only based on the type of enemy, or which weapon you use.

Damn I'm itching to play this. Have been thinking about it today while at work, man that is geeky. I'm even more excited about this than Battlefield 3, believe it or not.

It looks amazing. And I'm not talking about graphics, that's another story because that too looks incredible. But the little bit of gameplay they showed - I like!

Oooooh...I heard FC3 was going to be in an arctic environment. Still looks good. Like who its an average joe rather than an ex-soldier turned merc.
If that kind of familiarity with combat is your definition of an average joe: I'd rather not know how your day at the office looks like.
I have a feeling that he's some kind of crisis area journalist, you know, the camera. I sure as shit would learn a ton of fighting techniques and shooting if I'm going to go walk into some african or eastern european civil war

They're definitely in the Pacific. Nothing like a crashed zero as a blow to the head that "THIS IS IN THE PACIFIC."
It's not exactly common practice for combat photographers to get special forces training. Hell, it's not even common practice to learn to handle a gun. You're generally safer without it anyway.

In an unrelated note: why accurately depict all the symbols in the camera's viewfinder, but make the light meter make no sense at all?

Ok, still their target detection needed a little tuning down.

No more bullshit two hit kill mutants, and no driving around a country, and I'm sold.
Need a computer upgrade first though. And that Insanity guy seems pretty damn scary.

Far Cry 2 was the definition of fail, but this actually looks pretty good to me. I like the style and the AI actually seems... survivable as opposed to moronically super-powered like in the first two.

Looks interesting, so say the least. While I'm going to miss some of the aspects of #2 (gun convoys, multiple objective paths, emotional narrative, open world with multiple terrains)
Its open world still. What they've shown is the intro to the game, which is why its so linear.

Looks awesome, also seems they fixed the broken stealth and the nearly indestructible enemies, can't wait to see how the experience sytem works out or whatever that was.
I always liked their stealth. You can sneak around fairly effectively if they've not detected you, but once you're spotted, it's time to stand and fight because they're not going to stand down if you hide in a ditch for 30 seconds. Guess it was nothing, Bob must have gotten exploding head sydrome like Bill and Frank.

Looks great. One thing that I loved about Far Cry 2 was all the little details (Opening doors, guns jamming) and the one here that really caught my eye was the cover system they have and how the position of your gun changes, the blind firing animations. Love it. Also the Takedowns were damn stylish. I just hope that there's much less driving because it could be amazing.

That looks a lot like Crysis.

That is a good thing. I'll wait for more gameplay before I decide though.
