what i want to know is...

does it have enemies which snipe you with a rocket launcher from 2 miles away? If not, then the game is dead to me.

Interesting review, but why isn't this in the reviews section?
I was about to point out the same thing. Maybe he wanted more people to see and comment on it XD
Probably, but isn't it against the rules to not post things in the right forum? I remember people getting yelled at for putting religion and Politics stuff in gaming and off-topic forums.
Worst case scenario is usually that he thread just gets moved to the right forum.

Once I saw/imagined myself playing the game, I couldn't help but draw comparison between it and Assassin's Creed III.

What is this? Ubisoft is trying to lead gaming into a crafting/hunting singularity?

Aside from that, the bow seems fun to use, (once I actually get the game) I think I'll try handicapping myself to only using the bow, and nothing else.

Now THAT is the path of the warrior.

Sorry, you won`t be able to enjoy it. There`s an indicator showing if enemies have spotted you. Stick to the ground, the bushes and change positions and they won`t find you. Maybe jumping around in open fields would be an option for you.

Well you should also use takedowns else it is the path of the archer not the path or the warrior.

OT: Well I am still getting it. TB said good things, and it looks really fun.

i called it. its the same thing as far cry 2 with a tropical island instead of africa.
I really hope it isn't. I was initially skeptical, but that was before it came out. Now, I'm hopeful. According to Eurogamer:
A lot of this stuff was true in Far Cry 2, of course, but while that game was also magnificent in its own way, it was a little bit in love with itself in some other respects - which resulted in things like bus journeys, respawning military checkpoints and other ideas that seemed to be more about getting the design to match the setting than making things more enjoyable for the player. Far Cry 3 is a clear reaction to that - there's fast-travel galore, no more respawning, sympathetic checkpointing and lots of shortcuttery - but as well as curing some of its predecessor's ills, it also builds on it spectacularly.

I sure will!

And I think the OP's description of FC3 had some of TB's comments mixed in methinks.

Nonetheless, the game looks fun as hell, if a tad too easy(what is it with ubisoft games gradually declining in difficulty?)

How does one of the common folk distinguish a moddable game from a non-moddable one?
Sometimes it's pretty evident, or the series has a long standing history of being moddable. I have NO experience with Far Cry at all, and I thought perhaps you might. Until I heard this game was a sandbox with RPG elements it wasn't even on my radar.
They made Far Cry 2 impossible to mod so they could more easily sell stupid DLC. That was about the time when, IIRC, DLC started becoming a thing.

I can't think of any Ubisoft game that allowed modding, but then again I've always found Ubisoft the worst dev by far. Yes, worse than EA. At least EA make good games now and then.

I'm thoroughly enjoying it. I would probably agree with OP, but I rarely play FPS games so I can't really be fed up with them. But I enjoyed FC2 as well despite it's obvious flaws. It's more about the setting and freedom for me. That's all I really need. And the bow makes me feel like such a badass. It's the only weapon I use. I'm gonna try to beat the game with nothing but the bow and knife.

The weapons are, well... the exact same weapons you see every where else. A few pistols that go "pop pop". A bunch of SMGs/LMGs/ARs that spray bullets at whatever you point them at. A couple of shotguns, a couple of sniper rifles... blah-de-blah. Neither interesting, inventive or particularly satisfying to use. The only notable standout is the flamethrower.

.
Sounds to me you just lack the imagination to see the game's strengths.

Say you have to clear an enemy camp...

You can go in and spray bullets like you are doing.

OR...

You could do it this way... shoot a cage to let a tiger loose, snipe the alarm boxes, stealth takedown the first guard and kick him into his buddy while pulling the pin on his grenade, fire a flare gun into a wooden shack to set it on fire and burn the guy on its roof, get in a jeep and mow down another guy, chuck some molotovs to keep the fire going, keeping distance between you and your enemies, run up and do a multiple takedown maneuver on 3 guys at once, take the last guy's pistol and use him as a shield, hang off a ledge and do a 'Death From Below' to kill the other roof sniper, plant some C4 by the obligatory explosive barrels then sneak behind a building and explode the final two enemies as they hunt for you.

There are far more ways to play this game then you're allowing yourself to do.

EDIT: And I didn't even mention the bow or flamethrower

Can't wait to get this on Steam!

Oh that's right, Ubisoft are complete fuck ups.
Far Cry 3 and Assassins Creed 3 are not being sold on Steam in the UK.

Quite amusing for a company that calls "95% of PC gamers" pirates, they really don't want our money.

I found the bow to be both exhilarating, and boring at the same time. It's fun because you get close to kill people silently like a ninja Predator meets Robin Hood, but it's boring because it's almost like cheating...

The flamethrower on the other hand. Point, click, laugh maniacally.

Despite the story, I think I'll get it anyway. What about the antagonists, (vaas mainly) are they interesting?

As a U-Play game, I doubt it will be too easy to mod, unfortunately.

Honestly, you, me, and BloatedGuppy up there should go form some kind of Videogame Triumvirate of Wisdom. Between the three of us, our joint opinions on games could rule the world.

[sup]Or, maybe just be insightful and witty. But don't rule out world domination.[/sup]

OT: While I can't say that Far Cry 3 is perfect, I can say this - it is refreshing, in this day of the corridor shooter dominating the single-player FPS market, for a game to simply hand you a world, some tools, and tell you "You have the capacity to have your own fun in whatever way you like. Go enjoy your game."

EDIT:

I'm not far enough in to say if he has a particularly interesting goal beyond money and power, and he's not even approaching morally grey, but he is a fantastically effective villain. He's not on screen too often, but when he is, he's frightening, unpredictable, and really menacing.

The voice actor deserves some recognition for turning a potentially-goofy character concept into a really dark reality. Vaas is totally insane, a real psychopath. Unfortunately, most games can't actually write a real psychopath, and just end up with a weirdo, but Vaas rings pretty true for me.
