So obviously this doesn't include the story co-op, which has been advertised as a reason to be interested since it was first announced at e3, but considering the nature and popularity of competitive multiplayer in FPS games I thought it was definitely intersting (and incredibly stupid) of Ubisoft to lock it behind a paywall like this.

Anyway, what are the Escapist's thoughts on the latest of Ubisofts poor marketing decisions?

Sounds to me like they're putting a new mode behind the season pass, not the entire PvP multi-player.
Course, this is Ubi we're talking about but I doubt they'd be stupid enough to look the entire PvP multi-player behind a paywall.

Judging that you already have to pay a fee to get online, and you have to buy the game it-self ( 60.00 if you are the day one crowd --- or higher if you want the extra edition of which I am sure there will be one) or somewhere around 58.00... THEN they ask you to cough up 30.00 more bucks for a season pass! Awesome. For 140.00 more, do we get a De-militarized AK-47 with gold plating and a signature on its stock from the developer?

I'll pass with all that nonsense. If someone wants to spend that kind of cash, it is their right to and there isn't a good or bad answer in that regard but for me personally, these developers want you to fork over a lot of money before their game is even tested by the gaming community. I can't tell you how many times I would see a whole bunch of players take the plunge only to regret they paid up because the final product either becomes very boring and they revert back to the usual suspects ( Call of Duty MP/Halo MP or ________ add fav MP in space provided) or you try out their MP only to loose interest because of its faulty design or gimmick packed pay-to-play schemes.

Other than that, I'm up beat about its single player. So far I haven't been let down by the Far Cry series... I had issues with FC3 on many levels, and in some ways liked FC2 better for certain things, but all in all, a strong series with re-playability.

I got the impression it was just one mode being put behind the season pass pay wall, but that's how it all starts, doesn't it? Also, there's an exclusive day-one season pass mission? Are you fucking kidding me?

Ahh, my bad, I have have interpreted it wrong. I think with all the content gouging Ubisoft has been doing this year I usually assume the worst when I see stuff like this. However, I still don't think that locking off gamemodes behind a pay wall will do any favours for the multiplayer community of your game - we see players get fractured enough when it comes to map packs, now they're locking entire gamemodes behind paid DLC, that you can preorder ahead of time. I just find it incredible disrespectful to the players.

Yes, and keep in mind that depending on where you live it could be even more expensive. For example, I live in the UK, and for last gen consoles, a new game on day one would set you back about £45 (about $70). Now, all next gen games cost at least £50 on launch, and often cost as much as £60 - $80 and $96 respectively.

On top of that, many companies, particularly Ubisoft, are not only advertising DLC for their games a month before their games come out, but are allowing you to essentially preorder it, with a snazzy trailer to get you pumped and everything. Oh, and the season pass on top of everything else, assuming they price it fairly according to the exchange rate, will be at least £15 on top of the base game, which means it will likely cost me the equivalent of $120 just to be able to access all the content, this is leaving out all the fluff and bullshit like the special editions, super duper special editions, etc.

And Ubisoft wonders why it's games get pirated so much.

Ubisoft's been going down the path of "worse than EA and Activision combined" for some time now. It is why I don't buy their games anymore, until they release the full version a year later. It's pointless.

Lol...the multiplayer in 3 was total shite and now they want to charge to play some of it in 4...good luck with that!

Sadly nowadays people will buy the hype more than the game...at least it will go to second hand cheapness rather quickly :p

So basically they are charging $30 extra on top of the $60 the game is probably going to cost for something that should be included in the price? Seems really lame considering they are already trying to charge people for additional content before the game has come out.
