The last sentence of your post was unintentionally hilarious, I must say. That being said, I never had Dogmeat follow me, because I would feel too bad when the inevitable happened (that being his untimely death). However, if you get Broken Steel there's a perk that allows you to bring Dogmeat back to life, so you'll never have to say goodbye!
Unrelated: Pulse is an amazing album.

OT: Yeah, the "Puppies!" perk always gets tons of mentions in threads about Dogmeat.

I killed the raiders, cut them up into 6 separate pieces each and spread their corpses throughout the waistland!!!!

Dogmeat is pretty shitty as far as companions go. Jericho is a much better choice. If you're using the PC version of Fallout 3, there is a cheat to make Dogmeat invincible.

Being a more stealth oriented player, I usually never have any followers actually following me (save occasions whenever a big fight is to occur). So no, I don't think Dogmeat has died for me.

I never really cared enough to get a companion. All my adventures in the waste were solo.

Dogmeat does die easier than any other companion, but everyone dies when I blow up a car right on them.

With broken steel you can get his puppy from a perk if he dies... anyway my dogmeat hasn't died cause i keep him pampered in my megaton shack.. still not sure why however.

Honestly I never found him. I've heard he's usually the first follower you can get but I never happened across him. The first follower I ever had was Cross and the Fawkes. But before you ask, no I never looked up on how to get Dogmeat though I am thinking about it. Also when I first saw this thread I was thinking of Sewer Shark.
What's your reward for this post? A million pounds of tube-steak!

If you want to find Dogmeat, go to a junkyard in the Wasteland. It's somewhere in the middle of the map, not too terribly far away from Megaton, if I recall. I've gotten him to follow me all three times I've played the game through, and he's died in about 2 minutes, the last time outside of Regulators' HQ, which is always being attacked by giant radscorpions.

Honestly, it's hard to get attached to a character who dies that fast and therefore really isn't helpful.

Unlike the dog in Fable 2. Whom I didn't revive the second time I played it through. And I missed him so much I couldn't bear to play the post-story quests without him.

*sniff*

I found Dogmeat, sent him to vault 101 and ignored him.

Oblivion's engine gives me severe lag whenever any 4-legged NPC walks.(for some reason, ants and scorpions don't give the same problem) This bug made Oblivion unplayable, the cells were a lot larger than in Fallout and there were a lot more animals. In Fallout it's not much of a problem, the 2-3 mole rats or other animals in an encounter die in a single shot and I've replaced brahmin with Behemoths.(simple skin change, will have to make a "behemoth with aqua pura" skin though)

I have no idea what happened to my Dogmeat. I found him, he followed me around for awhile, I sent him to find some ammo and he never came back.

He eventually popped out at 101 after I entered the simulation, then I parked him outside my house in Megaton, then he disappeared again and hasn't reappeared since, not even outside 101.

Needless to say, I found him pretty useless.

I loved that damned dog. Had him follow me everywhere, and I wasted a lot of health packs on him. Made sure I could cover him at all times in fights, which made combat even more challenging. He was an absolute pain in the neck.

But what better companion is there for wandering across a wasteland?

My Dogmeat died once...

I was sad, on the verge of tears...

Then I reloaded the autosave. quicksave.
No, no. That was after the time I killed him.
True that.

Ever turn on godmode and use the MIRV while he's standing around?

It's quite comical.

Nope... I've got the 360 version.

I always feel guilty after killing the poor dog. I let my boredom get the best of me. >:

Actually, now that I think about it, I've never actually got the MIRV yet...

Time to play some Fallout 3.

Wow. You like roleplaying huh? Never met Dogmeat, but felt so bad about Fawkes's life and took him with me.

Can't say i do anything special to dogmeats body, but the thing that kills him gets its limbs and head destroyed by shotgun blasts, even if its already dead, then the rockets get involved.
