Speaking a core gamer, it's awesome to see Farmville branded such.

The Virtual Boy, less so... sure, it gave people headaches and largely tanked, but at least they were trying to innovate.

I call bullshit on the hydrogen blimp entry. When the Hindenburg was built in 1931, its makers didn't make the "fateful decision" of filling it with hydrogen, just like airplane manufacturers these days don't make the "fateful decision" of filling the wings with fuel. That's just what they are. Before the Hindenburg crash, hydrogen-filled zeppelins had been flying around for decades, and had even been used as heavy bombers in the First World War. Hell, even Hindenburg itself flew around for six years before it went boom. (Also some zeppelins could carry and launch small airplanes [http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/USS_Akron_%28ZRS-4%29]. How cool is that? And how about the one that survived being blown near-vertical [http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/USS_Los_Angeles_%28ZR-3%29] by strong winds?)

And why did it go boom? Most probably because of the flammable coating of the outer hide. NOT because of the hydrogen.

The rest of the list seems pretty solid, but this inclusion is either a simple play for the spectacle (that still of the Hindenburg on fire is iconic, awe-inspiring and terrifying), or a major fail in research. And since I trust Time to do their research properly, that makes this most probably an attempt to pander to the love of spectacle.

.....sorry for the rant, I just love zeppelins.

Lol, actually it seems that TIME added Farmville in more of an angle of humor rather than dark intentions:

"Blast you, Farmville. The most addictive of Facebook games is hardly even a game ? it's more a series of mindless chores on a digital farm, requiring the endless clicking of a mouse to plant and harvest crops. And yet Zynga, the evil genius behind this bizarre digital addiction, says more than 10% of Americans have logged in to create online homesteads. How many hours of lost productivity does that translate to? Tough to guess. But for me, personally, at least dozens. Sorry, TIME"

Let's not forget that they also wrote this article that Farmville is in the Top Ten of everything in 2009: http://www.time.com/time/specials/packages/article/0,28804,1945379_1944827_1944833,00.html

It seems that the author from TIME who wrote this article even plays Farmville ;). His intention was to communicate that Farmville is so addictive in it's repetition, and that is what makes it bad. Though I would not be one to play Farmville, it's just not my thing XD. I think it`s pretty obvious to most everyone though, that Farmville is not a " Worst Invention". After all, it has more players than WoW, is tremendously profitable, easily portable to other websites, just to name a few points. Whether a few people like it or not, Farmville is technically a good invention. Though if you are a core gamer, Farmville is a little too casual for you.

The article and the list is worth a read for a bit of humor like the one about Sony CD Copy Protection:

http://www.time.com/time/specials/packages/article/0,28804,1991915_1991909_1991762,00.html

or Hair in a Can:

http://www.time.com/time/specials/packages/article/0,28804,1991915_1991909_1991905,00.html

Though this article doesn't come off as supporting hatred and bias towards these products. Though I can see how it can be easily taken out of context.

And for all you Croc lovers out there:

http://www.time.com/time/specials/packages/article/0,28804,1991915_1991909_1991905,00.html

I should send this to a few people I know o~O!

Let's not forget that Tomagotchis are on this list, now would you classify this as a worst invention? Not anyone in the stock market around that time, nor would any one of the tens of millions of kids who owned one:

http://www.time.com/time/specials/packages/article/0,28804,1991915_1991909_1991812,00.html

It's obvious that there are a few humorous ones in this list, and should not be taken out of context.

Well, there's an Apple product in one of the pictures on the list. Close enough I guess, but they really should have given a complete spot to the iPad. $600 for the lowest end model of a giant iPod Touch, what a joke.

Farmville and Virtual Boy was bad but...As bad as the Hydrogen Blimp and Agent Orange? That's like saying chicken pox is as bad as lung cancer.

Tom, your vendetta against Mark Pincus and Farmville is a source of endless delight to me. Keep writing these stories; I'll keep reading 'em!

Despite that the Virtual Boy having to be the worst invention, there are some games that are decent.

I happen to own one.

Glad to see that Farmville is getting the recognition that it deserves.

This whole thing seem more like a comical satire then an actual real list though I mean they didn't even mention the patent for Chicken goggles!
