It's almost the furthest thing from cheating imaginable, it is literally a tutorial like aspect that is only ever done once, it's a tutorial for something that literally doesn't exist outside of it's own tutorial.
The explanation and on-screen prompts are highly misleading, they in fact make no effort to tell you what you are meant to be doing.
They don't make mention to the frequency thing or the little arrow your supposed to be following, they just stick the gauge up on the screen and then literally pulsate keys, A and D, any sane person would assume you are meant to press the A and D keys in time with on-screen prompts, but that literally has nothing to do with it.
They don't actually explain, or even try to explain, or even hint at what you are meant to be doing.
I did it without looking it up (what you refer to as cheating) but it was ALL guess work, I was just pressing buttons at random until it gave me the go ahead and that is pretty much all that can be done, there's no skill involved in randomly pressing buttons until the game let's you pass so looking this up is not cheating, it would be cheating if the game actually had a go at explaining what the fuck you are meant to be doing instead of showing you something that you are not meant to be doing.
It's like building an IKEA desk when you've got the instructions for an IKEA bed - you're probably going to look up or request the instructions for the desk because these bed instructions aren't working out very well.
