I go for function over fashion
This all the way. I gave up caring what other people thought of my clothes long ago. Now it's a responder polo and some YKK, double stitched khaki pants. Not pretty but, the clothes will outlive me.

I usually care more about comfort over fashion, but I do have enough sense not to wear a nasty old T-shirt and pajama bottoms out in public (if you do, then you have no idea how stupid and slovenly you look to everyone else).

Mostly, I don't care much about how other people buy into the fashion deal, as long as they don't try to convince me that I should be doing the same. Or in cases where they've either gone way overbaord with the concept (everyone knows of at least one Goth who takes it just a teensy bit too far), or are just doing it so wrong that even the people who have no idea how to do it right are looking at them weird.

Meh, if people want to dress according to what's fashionable, let them. It's their money and time (and dignity sometimes) they are putting on the line...
Everyone needs a hobby :p

I'm certainly no slave to fashion, but I do go out of my way to look my best. It's more then just expression. It's about people taking me seriously. If I expect people to respect me, then I want to dress like I respect myself. Besides, a guy who doesn't at least take care of himself, almost never gets the coveted second glance.

Definitely think that it's important to put some effort into one's appearance (if one can manage it). Don't think that necessarily means religiously following the current trends.

I dont mind fashion and trends. What I do mind when it comes to clothes is when people dont know what they look good in, and dress in things that are really unflattering on them.
Like an overweight, complete ***** in my class, she was always wearing a little longer than average shirt as a "dress" showing off half of her ass and all flaws hes body has. It was horrible, really.
If people however like wearing the trendy things, I wont stop them, but it does bother me when someone has clothes that really doesnt fit them and/or look flattering on them.

For gods sake people, mind your clothes and dress in things that actually fits, fashion or not.

Thank you.

I'm mostly in agreement here. I've seen far too many guys and girls who seem to have a problem with discretion, especially when it comes to them being overweight and in REALLY revealing outfits. I'm overweight myself, and that shit just makes me cringe.

If you're overweight, it will do you loads of good to learn about vertical lines and the type of clothing that is flattering to your image. For guys, if you didn't know, Dickies has an amazing selection of clothes that look great if your heavyset.

I'm not really a dedicated follower of fashion.

I've never really understodd the whole "fashion" thing, since I'm not really into my image. I just wear black clothes and be done with it.

Also, welcome to the Escapist.

Oh, and nice avatar.

Pink glitter was in?
:)
Well, fashion can make statements about who we are, in a nutshell.
But I don't like nuts cuzz they get crushed by rocks.
But Rocks crush Scissors too.
And Scissors cut Paper.
Yet Paper covers rock!
Kiff, we have a conundrum

You sir, are awesome.

Anyhow, I wear whatever. Usually jeans and a rugby shirt in winter, and shorts, a shirt, and maybe another one over it in the summer. A fedora may occur in either season.

I like a fitting shirt, basically going towards the tight side, but not to the point where I feel compressed. And then I like loose pants, be they jeans, cargo or whatever as long as they can move around (and by loose I dont mean hanging down showing off underwear I mean flexible). Shoes are usually sneakers or boots, I dont like sandals much because I find them inconvenient.

Still even with that basic preference there is a lot of things I can do

I go with what Al Murray says.

"In every pack of hunting dogs, there's a dog at back who is blind. He's at the back so he cans mell where he's going. Basically, he's following arseholes. And that is fashion."
That is amazing. <3 Al Murray

meh. That is my attitude to fashion. Sure I wear clothes that I think look good. People don't respect you if you look like a hippy tramp, but I try not to buy things that look daft, just because they're in fashion. Like those fucking T shirts with the really open necks for guys, that end up showing half your chest. I mean, why? (maybe I'm just in denial because of my inadequately muscled chest)

But if I like something that is fashionable at the time, I wont hesitate to buy it. Unless it's really expensive of course, there is a limit to how much a sensible person should spend on clothes.

Random related quote... from...
I Don't Know
Fashion is a form of ugliness so intolerable it has to be changed every six months.

Not hateful enough to be my view on fashion though.

When a chick puts stripper dust (aka glitter) on her cleavage, I definitely consider it a form a create expression.
