Hmmm, I wonder if this works for accents and skin color?

Cause I know an italian and mexican I wouldnt mind gaining an accent and skin color from...

As with anything this boils down to nurture affecting nature. Nurture in that its the kid's enviroment and surroundings(home life/activity level) affecting their physical condition, nature in that they are obviously of the body type that is not ectomorphic and more endomorphic.

But thats from what little understanding I have of the subject so I can very well pretty much be talking out my ass.

I can completely see how that would be true, for example when I'm outside doing my Parkour training. There are a group of people who just mess stuff up and loiter about places doing nothing productive, some of them though are friends of mine. Whenever I'm having lunch or resting from lack of energy or something like that, the fact that they're doing nothing kind of rubs off on me and I find it hard to get back to training afterwards. I have to move to a new area to get myself back in the mood.

So this definately makes sense to me.
OT though I don't have any fat friends, abit chubby yes, completely fat and obese no.

By this logic, I could be 500 pounds, hang around a few people with uber muscles, and all of a sudden become one of them.

>___>"
Erm. No... The people with uber muscles would all become fat.

The scenario you described is pretty much the opposite of what this article was suggesting.

Are you referring to society's definition of "fat" in which only a size 2/32 waist is acceptable? Or the normal person's definition of fat?

Either way, I have friends who are larger than me that I've had for years and I wear a size 30 waist...so I'd say, no, I'm not influenced by the size of my friends.
a 30" waist is bad if you're 4 ' tall...
I guess that's true, but considering I'm 5'10" I'd say a 30 waist isn't all that bad. :p

I really hate to agree with something like this... however, I have noticed (especially if I'm living with them) if my friends don't feel like doing anything, than neither do I. We've gone weeks just being inside, playing games, etc. I dunno... =/

Meh, kids are a sexually transmitted disease anyway. At least obesity makes them less likely to survive in case of zombie apocalypse.

I'll just say that I'm quite fat but a good bit of my friends are a healthy weight.

However, I have noticed that I tend to get along well with fatter peers, especially with (American) football. Perhaps there's an unspoken council of fat guys?

Sounds pretty logical. Fat kids tend to stay indoors all the time playing videogames with cola and chips.
But that's what I do, and I'm not fat. Am I? Maybe fat kids have some sort of fat shield on their eyes and they can't tell that they're fat. Oh my God, I might be obese! But yeah, that's nearly all I do and I'm not even a bit over weight.
Ive been getting alot of replies like this. But are you saying that sitting on your ass all day eating junkfood generally doesnt contribute to overweight?

The only way I see this as contageous is when children start influencing each other. Like when friends come over to the fat kids house everyday to sit on their asses instead of throwing hoops or whatever.

I have friends of all sizes and yeah hanging around them does influence my weight, when hanging around my skinny friend's house shes a vegetarian and loves tofu and this spicy lettuce (arugula) and a bunch of stuff I hate going over my fat friend's house she has Oreos and pizza and can make delicious deep fried chicken. Going back to a different skinny friends house look in her pantry nothing look in her fridge nothing. (In the end we go to KFC or a Chinese place and I pay for it).

I myself am quite fat and nearly none of my friends are overweight and none of them are to the point of being fat.

It hasn't happened to me. I have a fat friend with an unhealthy diet and the only weight I've gained is in muscle. Maybe my skinny friend with an unhealthy diet is counteracting the effects.

Is it because they have enough mass to warrant their own gravitational pu-

You know what? I'm gonna stop there.

I don't think I could get any more cruel with this post, unless I start firing off dead baby jokes or something...

I have no fat friends, and were all gamers. So I don't get all this.
I believe gaming and fat is just a bunch of prejudice. It's about what you eat, and if you move less, then normaly you're less hungry. Some peeps simply go with unlucky genes
