Favorite animal, why, and when did it achieve this status?

I searched the forums and found one old thread sort of like this, so I decided to make a new one to see what all y'all have to say on this subject.

Mine are wolves, hands down. They're beautiful, majestic, intelligent, family/pack oriented to a fault, and are widely misunderstood.

The wife of one of my dad's friends several years back was a big fan of wolves, and I thought, "Hmmm...these animals are actually pretty awesome." I hadn't thought much about my favorite animal before that point.

Now my love of the creatures is so well known that my gf has taken to calling me "wolfy". :3

Remember, y'all behave. This isn't a "my animal could beat up your animal" thread (although the results of that have the potential to be hilarious).

Humans. Love a lot of them ;)

Oh, non-sentient species? Well I really love all animals, but maybe hedgehogs? They're just so adorable!

The Okapi.

Zebras are awesome. Giraffes are awesome. Thus, the okapi is the coolest animal ever.

Dik diks.

They're a small antelope native to East Africa.
When I say small antelope I mean they average about 12 inches in height and weigh about 15 pounds.

That is completely awesome.

Im a fan of flightless birds in general, but my favourite is the Kiwi as i've had a plushie of the thing since i was a kid, although even the plushies have the survival abilities of the real thing, im on my fifth re-incarnation of "Kiwi" arn't i just so original with names?

Also a close second is the Rhea, because their known to walk into walls...i should really stop loving Flightless birds that could be wiped off the face of the earth if mother nature so much as hiccups..except penguins, their the Hardcore Flightless bird.

Siberian Tigers, because they're beautiful creatures. Since when? Since they started being awesome. So, forever I guess?

Close second is the Utah Raptor. But, they're all dead now.

I just looked it up. Looks I have another animal to add to my top five favorites. Sorry, Mr. White Rhino.

Polar Bear.

It achieved this status when I realised it was a massive, white bear that terrified bus drivers for fun. Seriously.

Oh hai!
This image made me lol. xD Polar bears are indeed awesome, and in Alaska and other such places they share territory with my brethren.

Starfish. They combine stars and fish, Two great things. And they became my favorite while on a trip to Key West.
