I just got done with Samurai Champloo and needless to say it was fantastic. The art, characters, and plot were all woven into an engaging and overall satisfying story. I've also watched the entirety of Cowboy Bebop and loved it as well. I'd have to say these two are my favorite anime and I couldn't tell you which I enjoyed more thoroughly. I'm currently looking for a new series to watched...any suggestions? Just tell post your favorite anime and why you loved it. I'm sure this questions been asked a hundred times, but I'm fairly new to the anime scene and would like some direction.

I like Code Geass, having a decent bit of depth and thought provoking scenarios, lots of explosions, and a hero who is fairly unconventional.

Galaxy Express 999. (Pronounced three nine)

Its an old anime classic, and is quite brilliant, but extremely different from the anime you'd see today. Its on Hulu if you're American.
Also, if you have a taste for old cartoons in general, check out Astro Boy for novelty's sake.

Just... Older anime in general. Its a love-it-or-hate-it thing, so its worth a try.

Well, hell, there's nothing I can say that hasn't been said by a thousand other people a thousand times before? But let me put it this way: when the nudity is arguably the worst part of the show, it's a good one. Seriously, whenever a fanservice scene reared its head, most of the time I just wanted it to end so I could get back to the story and characters and blah blah blah amazing show.

Puella Magi Madoka Magica.
I wrote a review about it here [http://www.escapistmagazine.com/forums/read/326.275533-Puella-Magi-Madoka-Magica-Review#10684887]. Just finished the last episodes and it has officially became one of my all-time favorites.

My other favorites include Evangelion, Bakemonogatari, K-ON!, and Death Note.
I also finished Samurai Champloo recently and loved it.

Hell, even writing the name got me all pumped up! That anime just blew me away...
Loved every single part of it. It was epic. So very epic.

Also, other stuff i liked: Welcome to the N.H.K, cause i was amazed how well the protagonist's mind worked like mine (well, except the talking home appliances part)...i really felt like i was just a a bit less messed up version of that guy. It made me think. Also, it was in a way, very realistic.

Great Teacher Onizuka was also fun, really enjoyed it. Had some great humor, but other, more serious stuff, too. One of my favorites.

Higurashi no Naku Koro ni [http://www.escapistmagazine.com/articles/view/editorials/reviews/anime/6503-Anime-Review-Higurashi-When-They-Cry]

Pretty much for the reasons outlined in the review. Excellent horror mystery show.

I agree with Efrate - Code Geass is quite a brilliant anime. The characters are interesting, and it alternates between awesome and explosions, and stray cat chases and hillarity.

Also worth a mention are Bleach, however mainstream you regard it, Fullmetal Alchemist and Fullmetal Alchemist Brotherhood, and also brilliant is Soul Eater.

Have fun.

Was actually recommended this not long ago and I have to agree it's turning out ot be fantastic. (On episode 5 at the moment) I'd highly recommend this. Is turning out to be better than I expected it to be.

ALso, as my favouites go, Highurashi no naku koro ni (and it's sequal Higurashi No Naku Koro Ni Kai). The first one is brutal, really grabbing you attention, hooking you wanting to find out more. THe sequal is more story based, unraveling the mystery left by the first.

Code Geass is another great one. Fantastic characters and plot. THe last episode had me go all teary.

Finally, my personal favourite, Kuroshitsuji (Sometimes called Black Butler). I love this anime the most out of all I've seen. THe story is my favourite. It mixes serious with funny, but never together. THe setting, Victorian England following Ciel Phantomhive and his demon butler Sebastian. The characters are all unique and all have some purpose. Only thing that people would be put of by is that it has a shota theme. It really makes sure to emphsize this sometimes, however it is usually just used to comedic affect. Nothing more.

Code Geass is good as said already, FMA brotherhood is also good, and if you haven't seen it I definitely recommend angel beats.

My favourite is Neon Genesis Evangelion, but I wouldn't recommend it to anyone since the large majority of people tend to dispise it.

The World God Only Knows, the manga was better (read: Keima was more godly and didn't blush like a schoolgirl every 10 seconds) but the anime is still awesome.

Also Umineko No Naku Kuro Ni the spirtual sequal to Higurashi... It's epic

Yes. That.

A friend actually asked me to watch it. So I did, and from the first episode I thought it would be a typical magical girl show.
I was wrong. So wrong. And ended up loving every damned minute of it.

So many... Hellsing Ultimate is my all time favourite just for the sheer gore of it all. But I'd advise checking out an Anime called Bakuman if you're looking for something lacking action. if you're looking for a NEW anime to follow the new episodes then I advise checking out Ao No Exorcist, so long as you don't mind cliché shounen action.

Same here. I saw the last 2 episodes last night. It was really good.

OT: Other animes I really liked were Star Driver, Toaru Majutsu no Index, Toaru Kogaku no Railgun, Elfen Lied, Xam'd, Shakugan no SHANA, Higurashi When They Cry, and Lucky Star.

Based on that:

Durarara
Darker than BLACK

Both have a similar feel (if the setting is completely different).
