I have to vote Cowboy Bebop for greatest soundtrack overall (and any song with Steve Conte or Mai Yamane singing earns double points with me).

However, this is my current favorite anime opening: Guns 'n' Roses from Baccano!


Just watch Miria boogie into the scene, and the smile on the young redheaded conductor's face!

Ghost in the Shell had the best all around soundtrack period. Yoko Kanno is nothing short of fucking brilliant. The music on that show, every single piece of it, is incredibly good.

Also, really liked the soundtrack for Mushishi.

I felt that Deathnote had an excellent soundtrack, excluding the Season 2 opening and closing. Dark, brooding, and mostly low key.

I've always been partial to Lilium, the opening from Elfen Lied, but that just might be my apparent Latin fetish talking.

Other than that, I am absolutely in love with the openings from Sayonara Zetsubou Sensei, as Kenji Ootsuki is perhaps the greatest Japanese rock/metal musician to ever live, and I've always been rather fond of the majority of the music from Higurashi No Naku Koro Ni. Prime example being the first opening, as I've never heard anything that would have been quite so fitting for the insanity about to ensue in my life.

Oh, and I have massive amounts of respect for the opening of Speed Grapher. Bet you never expected an anime series to license Duran Duran's Girls on Film. I certainly didn't.

I want to like Champloo's OST more, but as I go through listen after listen it just ends up sounding like a generic compilation of other artists works with some Nujabes B-Sides thrown in.
