Damnit, everybody's already taken my ideas.

Except for one! Haseo from .hack//ROOTS and GU!

Okay, he's not so much a villain as an arrogant, selfish, xenophobic bellend who fell from grace, doing the MMO equivalent of mass murder for all the wrong reasons, but he eventually figured out he was breaking the golden rule of Shonen Anime (i.e. friendship solves EVERYTHING) and went on to fix his ways. That counts, right?

Magus from Chrono Trigger is a good one.

Although he's my favorite, for the sake of non-repetition I'll pick a different one.

Golbez, FF4. Golbez as a character/villian gets much more development in the after years as well.

ALmost two pages filled and no mention of the three best reformed villains of Science FIction TV yet?

Jayne
Originally a henchman of someone threatening the Serenity crew, joined them because he saw the error of his ways (these errors being: accepting less payment than he'd get on Serenity, and having to share his room)

Bialar Crais
Originally trying to kill John Crichton at every opportunity, later started helping him when he realised his motives, and that his brother's death actually was an accident.

Scorpius
OK, so he probably stayed a villain, but switched sides. Does this count, too?

Hm, yeah. Dinobot, GLaDOS, Magus.

Megabyte from ReBoot also had one or two pretty awesome anti-heroic moments.

No John Marston?

Man, what's wrong with you people... He was a great guy.

Plus, he has super-natural powers!

Captain Thalric from Adrian Tchaikovsky's Shadows of the Apt series. Seriously. Anytime he shows up the book gets infinitely better.
Probably why I didn't like The Sea Watch that much, no Thalric, and it's centred completely around Stenwold, whom I don't like much...

Also I feel lonely and sad that I appear to be the only person using a book... Q_Q

The most epic villain turned hero ever. MASSIVE-MULTIGAME SPOILER WARNING for anyone who hasn't beat Metal Gear Solid 4 yet!!!!

Actually, you know what. No. No spoiler. If you played the game you had better know who I mean. Such an epic turn, and even though he turned out to be a good guy he still remains the series' main villain over-all. Kojima may be long winded, but damn he knows how to write a plot, I'll take hours of cut-scenes over Call of Duty's "OH SHIT SOMETHING JUST BLEW UP AND NOW YOU'RE HERE!" style of 'plot' (I should say modern Call of Duty, the originals had some epic atmosphere).

I've been seeing lots of "Vegeta!" from Dragon Ball Z.

First, I gotta say, that Vegeta isn't really a "villain turned hero," he's more of a "villain turned anti-hero." Everything he does after losing his first fight with Goku revolves around pursuit of his own personal power, revenge against Frieza, and, most of all, proving that he is better than Goku. I'd say that it's only at the very end of the DBZ series that he gives all that up and, by my reckoning, could truly be considered a hero.

Second, what about Piccolo?! Unadulterated villain for all of Dragon Ball and the very early part of Dragon Ball Z, but then he morphs into a tried-and-true hero. Also, he's a badass.

I will admit bias, as I am a huge Piccolo fan and I've always felt that the Vegeta fanboys have a tendency to overlook other characters in favor of Vegeta. Even still, Piccolo's my favorite villain-turned-hero.

Oscar motherfucking Shindler. Granted, less of a bad guy than an opportunist looking to make some money, but definitely transformed into one hell of a good guy. First RL example too.

Jaime Lannister. Sandor Clegane to an extent too. Mance Rayder, though it's generally just the perception of him that changed, he was always a somewhat decent guy. Littlefinger, though it really depends on your opinion.
