Yeah, Nirvana is not an alternative band, no matter what itunes says. Nirvana is a grunge band.

As for my favorite I'd have to go with Misfits, especially when Glen Danzig was the lead singer.

Edit: I feel like a loner for being the only one who listed a hardcore punk band, so I'll alienate myself some more.

I find that to be a very narrow minded statement. I am deeply, deeply in love with all the bands in my list despite the fact that many are somewhat unheard of. To write something off just because YOU don't know about it is childish.
