I pondered whether this should go here or in off-topic but Battletech started as a tabletop RPG and has had many video games so here it is.

Throughout the many eras of battletech there have been many different nations, mercenary groups, and even a cult or two battling for control of the universe with several story tall war machines. Which group was your favorite and why?

I'll go first. I always loved the clan Jade Falcon. They knew what they wanted and were quite happy to use politics, force, cunning, and sometimes a surprising amount of subtlety to get it. If you're going to be evil you might as well be competent and evil. I enjoyed the Jade Falcon campaign of Mechwarrior 2 over the Wolf Campaign. In the second to last mission where after hours of rough battles you get to wade into and blow up the command cars of your enemies is quite fun! The first Battletech books I read were the Jade Phoenix trilogy. Those three are some of the few books from that series I still own. A character named Dwilt Radick is a villain in the second Phoenix book. In the mission of Mechwarrior 2 I described above, you get to shoot down his personal mech. Delightful.

Captcha: I have fallen. Yes Galaxy Commander Radick, you have.

never played the tabletop game, my experience with battletech is through the many books and games. House Davion is still probably my favorite faction. Smart, honorable, charasmatic, but not afraid to use deceit and get their hands dirty to do what needs to be done. They are a blend of good and pragmatic. Steiner used to be good until the Fed com civil war dragged their name through the mud with Katherine and Noami Steiner. Especially Katherine, how i despised every fiber of her being. Even Sun-Tzu Liao wasnt as bad as her. Even the "good" Steiners like Adam were kind of a prick. Old school Steiner on the other hand (like Katrina) were badass.

Clanwise? Ghost Bear. Jade Falcon is another good choice, but i view Ghost bear a little more favorably as they are a bit more forward thinking in terms of pragmatism.

Mercenary? Kell Hounds. Badass mofos who fight for more than a paycheck. They actively tried to make the Inner Sphere a better place. They also made sure there would be a Lyran Allaince left after the Civil war by creating the Arc-Royal defense corridor preserving a good chunk of military strength in case the Jade Falcons attacked (which they did)

Im not very familiar with Inner Sphere politics during the Dark Age besides what is going on in the Republic.

Quite a few are interesting, but I think I'd have to say clan Ghost Bear. Their overall mindset seems a bit more reasonable.

Clan Wolf-in-Exile.

The true Wardens of Kerensky's vision.

I used to play Free Worlds League before the Clans were introduced, though. Then I switched to Wolf, and then to Wolf-in-Exile.

I am not too familiar with Battletech lore since most of my experience with the universe comes from casual play of the mechwarrior games back in the day(particularly MW4: Vengence/Mercenaries). However after taking a quick peek I will have to go with clan Diamond Shark if only because they made the Mad Cat MK II. I loved that thing.

Rasalhague Republic. I've got a soft spot for underdogs and being fairly democratic space vikings in a setting full of straight up monarchies wins some points.

Aint afraid of no bears.
