Woah, woah, woah... Hold up. Since when did Risk become a "nerdy" game? My friends and I love that game! We don't play very often but when we do it's awesome and quite competitive. We add our own "house rules" to it as well. Mostly in the form of treaties, alliances and "no attack pacts." (Where two enemies agree not to attack each other from specific countries) They might seem cheesy but imagine you're the other guy.

You're the third player who has just started to dominate the world. You're a few turns away from sweeping across the globe with your massive armies. Yes, you've left your inner countries weak but it isn't a great risk. Soon, your enemies will be vanquished, the war will be over and you will be the ruler of the world! Then, without warning, your enemies unite themselves. A unity with a single goal: Destroy you. They've stopped attacking each other and focused all their combined strength on you. Maybe leaving the majority of your countries so weak wasn't such a good idea after all...

See? That's not nerdy at all! Risk is a blast. Monopoly is great. Stratego is nearly just as good. Lastly, get a bunch of friends together and play Apples to Apples. So much fun.

nothing like a game of Axis & Allies...unless the game escalates into 10 hours and its still anyone's game. if you can find it get Blood Bath In New York; kinda like a mafia monopoly style game. another game is Lord of the Schtick. all are very fun

I have the old original Risk, not this whole new fangled type all the youngins have. And I let them steal Russia, because I grab South America or Oceania, or even Africa if I have the presence. Quick easy continents means many massive militias mwahahaha.....

Axis and Allies is a whole lot of fun, even though it's a PAIN to set up

Stratego is quick and easy fun.

Here's one I'll bet not many have heard of, before video games caught on, Strat-o-matic was a football based board game, where it had statistic cards for players and such. I play it every so often with my father.

Risk is particularly awesome because it can destroy lives. Broken promises, blackmail, insults to the very core of a person's existence all hitched on a single gambit to capture Madagascar. Oh yes.
He who holds Madagascar hold the key to the world!

Monopoly, Pictionary, Trivial Pursuit, Articulate. I think I'd enjoy Risk more if it wasn't for the fact that only my Dad enjoys playing it, and he manages to kick my arse every time we play it.

Chess, risk and that most evil of creations, Monopoly. It always involves double dealings, bribes, th occasional theft and betrayals.

Settlers of Catan, Carcassone, Stone Age, and Galactic Encounter are my favorites. Quality games, all.

Man, Catan rocks! I got that in Canada on Christmas and played a few games out of it. Played a game of Chess and Scrabble as well. I'm quite bad at Scrabble but I knocked the socks off Larry at Chess! Chess master here!
I'm also digging Monopoly. I have a few different boards as well, one's in French and I have a Lord Of The Rings one that I kinda like too.
Ack, I also wish to mention I haven't played Cluedo before. I know right?!
I see what you did there.
Also, to everyone else I don't suck that much at chess, honest! Only sometimes. My favourite board game has got to be Pictionary. I love that game! I'm pretty darn good at it, and I like how high energy and team-based it is. After that, Cranium is pretty fun (get to hum stuff and do charades as well as showing off my trivia skills, so that's cool), Catan is good times (always go for the grain!), and Scrabble is a classic. I don't really like Monopoly, and I uh, sort of cheat at Clue... Which reminds me that it seems like everyone inevitably changes the rules at the end of a game of Trivial Pursuit.

Warhammer 40k beats mostly everything. Too bad I'm poor and can't afford it.

I remember this one time where I built a railroad from Madrid to Moskva, but I lost by 40 points because I was supposed to build to St. Petersburg. If I just built those two track segments, I would've won by 20.

Easily risk, but played "8 year old style". So much more fun. Plus our games don't always take so long. What with missiles, peace days, and demons ( You had to sacrifice 10 cannons for those bad boys)

SPACE HULK

Seriously, loved this game. No expansions, nothing extra, just plain old Space Hulk.

Very, very tense game, and perfect for quoting lines from the Alien films.

Apples To Apples, everyone likes to play that game with me.
But only the truly hardcore choose to play Monopoly with me (I have had some intense games lasting over several days).

Risk, War of the Ring, Monopoly and Cluedo are great fun. I would love to try my hand at the Game of Thrones board game(and subsequent expansions).

Apples to Apples, Wise and Otherwise (like Balderdash except you're finishing proverbs, so much better), Axis & Allies, Settlers/Cities and Knights of Catan, Battletech on the tabletop was pretty cool, plus then I actually understood how to build my mechs for Mechwarrior. 40k, go 'Nids!
