1984 by George Orwell and Siddhartha by Hermann Hesse.

1984 because it is the only doomed love story that I have ever liked and its a dystopian book which are my favorite kinds.

Siddhartha because it is simply just amazing. The lessons you can get from reading this book can last you for life. This book is what made me convert to Buddhism/Hinduism.

That, and Roadside Picnic, by Arkady and Boris Strugatsky. It's a great book; <a href=http://www.cca.org/cm/picnic.pdf>you should read it!

EDIT: Oh yeah. It's good because... It's good. The Strugatsky brothers are amazing authors and if you like Roadside Picnic, you should try some of their other books, like Noon: 22nd Century or Hard to be a God.
Thanks for the book! :D

And thats probably one of the few books in history that translated into a good movie and a good movie into a good game, namely S.T.A.L.K.E.R.

Oh, and my booktip would be The brothers Karamazov or Crime And Punishment by Fyodor Dostojevski they're big but really good :D
I actually didn't like the movie Stalker, and the game seems much closer to the book than the movie. I'm pretty sure the game was more based on Roadside Picnic than on Stalker, despite the name.

Wizards First Rule by Terry Goodkind! The book has everything, action, romance, gory details, and old cooky men. This book is MAGIC! Read it, and if you don't like it, then we'll go to fistycuffs!

Go-Go Girls of the Apocalypse, by Victor Gischler. Do I have to explain why? Actually, pretty much anything by him. Pulp fiction at its finest.

I'm going to get my rear end dismantled for this...

The Harry Potter series is definitely among my favorites. I find J.K. Rowling to be an amazing person and without her books I would have probably never found an interest in reading or swords & sorcery to begin with. While a tad cliche-ish, The Lost Years of Merlin by T.A. Barron is also an excellent series. Wicked: The Life & Times of the Wicked Witch of the West by Gregory Maguire takes the cake for me, though. It has a thoroughly interesting take on Oz and is one of the most artfully written novels I've ever read. The last paragraph of the book is probably one of my favorite pieces of English literature of all time.

Duh LotR. I mean it's just so damn epic. It has a whole history (Silmarillion) that you can dig into and see the world from it's beginning.
Meh the LOTR's trilogy felt to much like i was working when i read them but the rest of The books where very good.

Personally, I'm teenager, but if you haven't read them check out the Angels & Demons, read it first, then read The Da Vinci Code. Both are excellent books in my opinion, to bad The Da Vinci Code got super hyped though..

Ender's Game. I'm not exactly sure why i loved it so much. Possibly because I could identify w/ so many of the characters. Emotional attachment I guess would be the way to describe it.

Well since Angels and Demons is a prequel it's highly recommended you read it first and I Really did not like the Da Vinci code his book Digital fortress was fantastic though ever read it?

I book I had to read for a goverment class a while back that turned out to be good was Ahmed's War,Ahmed's Peace. It was a great book written on the Iraq war from a Kurdish view.

For a decent murder one I would Recomend Red Dragon,it's the first in the Hannibel Lecter Series, though Hannibel is barly in it. It got me into the mind of the killer to show how screwed up he really was. Well written.

Also should mention some Ayn Rand,if you don't mind objectivism, she pens some decent books like the Anthem, which was just a great short story on man's ego
