Favorite Book

My favorite book is A Storm of Swords by George RR Martin, but I think after July it will be A Dance with Dragons in the same series (That's when it's coming out Squeeeeeeeeeeee).

I came into this thread ready to say the very same thing. Like, no jokingly. As a matter of fact, I'm reading A Storm of Swords again at this very moment. Had I known the book release news sooner, I might have put off re-reading the series by a few more weeks, but oh well. Now I'll just have to marathon-session it again one more time before comes out. Oh, poor poor me! However will I manage?!*

A great piece of satire taking place in WWII.

I refuse to pick one book. I must pick a series.

Specifically, The Wheel of Time series. By Robert Jordan.

I love it for all the normal reasons you'd love a book; good writing, good characters, good story. But also because it's huge, both in size and scale. It is truly an epic series.

Wheel of time: Agree on 2 things: excellent characters - love the development throughout the series, and a good story. However Robert Jordan's writing is painful at times, overly descriptive to the point of distraction. Seriously by the end of that series if I had to read another paragraph describing the lace, colour and cut of some maiden's dress i would scream.

Out of interest did you pick up the final books in the series written by (i think) Brandon Sanderson? Were they any good?

My favourite book: 1984 by George orwell.

I've read the first one Sanderson wrote and , in my opinion, he does a good job emulating Jordan. I'd pick it up if you like the series. I have the second one he wrote, but I haven't had time to read it yet.

I really love the Belgariad series by David Eddings. Particularly Enchanter's Endgame. That is one of the funniest yet most epic battles ever in a novel.

Wow nice to see someone other than me who has heard of that series, it's my favorite too!

I really like that - but I always preferred Polgara to the rest of the Belgariad.

Cat's Cradle - Kurt Vonnegut

I love the satire/sci-fi/fantasy stuff. A lot of Terry Pratchett is fun to read too.

Neuromancer by Willian Gibson.

Gibson is by far my favourite author, so all nine of his novels and a handful of his short stories all make the top of my list.

Following that would be an assortment of HP Lovecraft stories (mainly, those outside the Cthulhu mythos), Philip K Dick, JRR Tolkien, and Neal Stephenson.

As a child I enjoyed the writings of Brian Jacques, JK Rowling, Hesiod and Homer.

Fell by David Clement-Davies is my favorite book. It is a sequal to The Sight by the same author. But to give you an idea of what it is picture Watership Down, just instead of rabbits use wolves. Also David Eddings books are truly exceptional.

The clear and unequivocal winner in my opinion, is Kane and Abel. I've read that book around 5 times, and still read it once in a while to inspire myself.On the whole though, I'm really surprised to find a thread about a book, on a gaming website. A pretty refreshing change though

Enders Game by Orson Scott Card
love dan simmons books hyperion/endymion cantos and others, enjoy dan abbnett's books though have never played warhammer and sigh, been so long couldn't recall his name at first but stephen baxter writes some great hard scifi. Have enjoyed many other books as well among then 100+ starwars books for better or worse, really need to get back to reading more again.
