It's not expensive if you cook your own food. Trust me. I can whip up a good wholesome meal that would cost less then ye average slice of pizza and pop, per serving at least.

Tuna's good when you don't have enough time or too lazy to cook, though. I've got a whole fuckin' box... I could probably survive for weeks on that -_-
I know this, I just go by recesion food as food that costs less then 30p to prepare

I make quite a bit of money still and so does my mom (good position in her job) so we do not have to cut corners when we shop (I chip in since I am that nice) but if I am looking for a cheap meal a peanut butter and jam sandwich is always a good meal.

I think instant Ramen will forever be the recession food. takes years to expire unless you cook it, and you can buy it for $0.13 at your nearest grocery store.
a weeks worth of lunches for a dollar? hell yes.

Ramen, of course. There is nothing better. It's one of the few foods I know how to make and it costs like 12 cents a pack.

I am an expert at this (or, at least I like to think so). I try to make tasty nutritional meals with variety (as much variety as possible on my budget anyway)

1) Pasta with tomatoes, basil a little sweet vinegar

2) Rice stil fry with been sprouts and sweet chilli sauce

3) Baked potato with cheese and spring onions

4) Omlette made with bean sprouts, spring onion, two eggs, tomatoes, milk

5) Toast and egg (various methods)

6) Banana fritter, old bananas (very cheap) fried in a pan with flour, egg, suger and some chololate powder

...I guess I need to think of a few more...

I'm going to have to add spaghetti and ketchup. Works nice for a few days, then it's back to beans on toast, or dhal.

Cereal cereal cereal!
The only thing that costs the most is the milk used to pour into the milk. I buy the large store rand bags of cereal, they taste the same (actually better sometimes!) than the big name cereal.

Darmn it all, I want cereal now.

Yeah... food's basically the one necessity I won't skimp on, no matter how bad my financial situation gets. Though, cheap off brand pop-tarts (or real pop-tarts without the frosting) with cream cheese spread between them like a sandwich is so damn good.
