Just out of curiosity, why are you disallowing manga? Are manga not essentially just Japanese comic books?
From what I've seen the differences between manga and western-style comic books/graphic novels, aside from the name which is purely arbitrary, are cultural ones. So this seems like unfair discrimination to me. But I don't read either, I'm just curious.

I liked DCs Ghost miniseries... Even though the covers always lied about the issues. Always. WTF does it show him in goddamned brazil when it only takes place in Mexico and the UK?

Galacta: Daughter of Galactus

I just wish they would make her an Earth 616 confirmed character. She'd be fun to have.
that was done by Adam warren in his manga style

OT: someone already mentioned the dark night returns and superman: red son so I'm going to go with either watchmen or v for vendetta. there's a lot more that i want to name but cant at this second
And? Its not a manga; its still considered a regular comic.
that's very debatable right there, granted the subject matter is a regular American comic(it is a marvel comic after all) the art style is manga. don't get me wrong i like Adam and his work(fan of empowered) and liked the comic(evenalothe i do think that Galacta needed to show some respect to reed)
Except it could be argue she really wasn't ever there to get Reed's help. Her plan the entire time was likely to just distract him long enough to figure out where the Ultimate Nullifier was, and then leave.
true, true, but i never said she was there to actually get reeds help, I'm just saying that the DAUGHTER of galactus should show some respect to the man who kicks her fathers ass every Thursday.

I'm going with Mark Millar's Wanted. When you got a villain made of shit from 666 of the most evil people to ever walk the earth, that's got awesome written all over it.

Ok so maybe that's not THE reason but it's still awesome.

No manga? Well damn, that limits my options...

Does Maus count as a mini-series? If not, I have to go with Hulk: The End. It's just such a tragic story... *sob*

Watchmen is the best.

As for ones starring recognisable comic characters I'd say Superman: Red Son. The premise is "what would the world be like if Superman landed in Soviet Russia rather than Kansas? What follows is a fantastic story that really shows how Superman's character is warped by Soviet ideals, but he's still the same person inside. Also Lex Luthor is at his most interesting.

Why the no Mange clause?

Anyways, I liked both Askani-Son, and Old Man Logan.
