What console controller was your favorite? Did you like the simplicity of the Atari X, the complexity of the Playstation X, the stupidity of the N64, or the middle ground of the SNES?
Personally, I like the NES controller. It's simple and easy to learn, but, as I've said before, the amount of button combinations/actions are incredibly high.
You have the A and B buttons, and you can mix the D-pad to create eight other directions, and the Select button could be used like a toggle between control sets, like a "Shift" on a keyboard, except more like Caps-Lock.
There's A and the eight directions (8), B and the eight directions (8+8), A and B and the directions (8+8+8), just A (8+8+8+1), just B (8+8+8+1+1), just A and B (8+8+8+1+1+1), just the eight directions (8+8+8+1+1+1+8), then they're doubled by the Select button ((8+8+8+1+1+1+8)*2=70).
Do you really need more than seventy commands? And none of these are way over-the-top things that require you to press six buttons at a time or anything. At most, it's four, and they're grouped in two pairs of adjacent buttons.
So, what do you like?
EDIT: (Oh, yeah, I'm going for console-only controllers. I favor the keyboard+mouse over all, but console-wise, it is the NES.) Go ahead with any controller you like the most, be it a remote controller for a TV, or your garage door opener.
(I searched, didn't find anything.)
