Am I allowed to use tabletop RPGs? If I am, then I go GURPS, simply because of the extensiveness to which one could go with the character.

If I have to use video games, then probably Oblivion. Sure the faces were ass-ugly unless you tried very hard (or just went with non-humanoid Argonians), but the variation that was possible was spectacular (and I feel was quite wasted when they went to design NPCs).

A close second would be Dragon Age, because the variation was there, just not quite so much as Oblivion.

THe worst, I'd have to say at the moment is Halo: Reach. They put all this stuff out there, then make you grind for it if you don't want to look identical to everyone else. What's worse is the limitedness of maps to grind on. I was fairly tired of multiplayer after the first couple of weeks.

Saints Row 2, by FAR.

Perfect combination of good looking characters and lots of options. Most other games really only have one or the other. Recent Bioware games are okay, especially Dragon Age, and it's easy enough to make decent looking characters, but many of the options you get are pointless and only serve to make your character look more deformed. I always start with a preset model and only make very minor tweaks.

Bethesda games are the WORST. Tons and tons of options, and it's almost impossible to make a decent looking character. Even the presets are horrific.

Phantasy Star Online's was my favorite. One of the few character creation systems that let you make a character that was 2 feet tall and round.

A kind of mix between Dragon Age: Origins, Fallout: New Vegas and a Tiger Woods PGA Tour.

Champions Online. It puts every other character creation system to shame.
I think I've spent more time creating my characters than actualy playing them. (To bad the rest of the game was ...)

APB.

Despite all its faults, that customization system was amazing.

< is excited for its re-release.

Something like Soul Calibur 4 where you can change your characters if you mess up with build. One of my biggest pet hates in WRPG is the character creation system. The first time through you always end up picking 1 or 2 useless things and end up destroying your character making it useless or bland late game. Aesthetically though probably the Guild Wars one and it expands ingame with various armour and dye option although those are expensive. Well depends on what you want.
