Favorite? Yikes, I've played over twenty characters, both pure and multi-classed to cap, and there are so many ways to play and so many different styles...

Okay, favorites right now are; Mackreger - Dwarven barbarian, Warbler - Warforged bard warchanter with a fighter splash, Aebot - Warforged Sorcerer with a bard splash and Mach - Dwarven rogue assassin with a fighter splash.

I am geek enough to have made a page with character descriptions and screenshots. [a href="http://lostmeetingplace.tripod.com/ddo/characters/clan.html"]My DDO Characters[/a]

You get ten (10!) character slots to start with, now, (on each of 5 servers!) so there is plenty of space for trying different things. Maybe best to start with a more straightforward class to get the hang of the game, then you can get funky. There is a new system to advise you on rolling/levelling standard classes, but you don't have to follow it.

You need 400 favor to unlock the Drow race. Maybe even make a Charisma-maxed slot for a hagglebot/mule.

Wizards can swop spells every rest if they like, Sorcs can exchange 1 spell every 3 days with a trainer (costs gp) but get more mana. Enhancements can be reworked every 3 days if you are dissatisfied; even feats can be changed if necessary. Only skill points and stat levelling are permanent. Some builds depend on changing their focus at a certain point to match content change, that's ok.

There's a DDO wiki http://ddo.enterwiki.net/page/Browse_portal with lots of great information on race, class, feats, enhancements, spells available and other stuff, and great guides in the forums (user-written strategy and guides) on all kinds of subjects, including named loot and where to find it.

I think the key is to not be afraid to try hard to group with strangers (we are mostly pretty strange) and don't hesitate to tell people you are new. If you like guides, people love to help; if you like to experience new stuff, say so, and many people will try to avoid spoilers (many characters are 4th, 5th, 6th alts, so it's old hat for some) or group with others new to DDO. If you are on during off-peak times, it may be a little harder to group; use the encounter areas to build xp solo or in 2s or 3s, and to practice your skills.

I recommend the Thelanis server: Good luck!

My favorite race in DDO is Elves. Little hotties they are! Dwarves are too ugly for me. Classes for me are Ranger and Monk...and anyone who says monks are gimped just doesn't know how to build/play one.

Now in DnD I love my elven druid and my elven psion/psychic warrior. =) Though 4Ed dwarven women look a LOT nicer than 3Ed ones!

If any of you new people are in send me a PM here, build on Thelanis and I will roll up a lowbie to show you around!

I love my barbs, got three of them, LOL,
I also have a dwarven rogue/ranger that is fun
and after two years of playing I finally rolled a caster, Damn, casters are fun

To anyone thinking of trying DDO, I really recommend human as your first race, the extra feat and skill points are very handy, I think human is more forgiving for new players.

i assume pve is more or less like every other d&d based game out there, but whats the pvp like ?
PvP is mostly done through Tavern Brawls. There is a side room in most taverns that is set for PvP so it is consensual. There are also challenge matches iirc but I am not into PvP at all.

I know this is a bit off topic, but i'm downloading the trial from Fileplanet and in my Download Manager, it says the file is 4.65GB even though both Fileplanet and the DDO site say the file is 1.6GB. I've looked on Fileplanet for other files, but it seems like I have the right one, is it supposed to be this big?
ya the download is 1.6 but then you have to update all the patches and mods.

I have a question. I've tried multiple classes and have never hit the level cap yet. Cause i keep takign time away from the game over and over again. SO.

If i start again will i have to hit 20 to get my extra buildpoints for a new character?
And me being a bit anal Whats the "best" class i can level to the cap and not really need those extra points. So im not really missing much. And or the easiest class. Im going to guess and i shoudl just roll a Warforged barbarian blaze to whatever the level cap may be then build what id actually want to play with my nex xtra points. KNow what i mean? fyi my high toon is a lvl 12 or 13 ranger. built for two handed as well as ranged. no real specialty. Great dmg but near impossible to solo.

Cleric or Warforged Wizard are the quickest and easiest to level if you're new to the game. Once you get 1750 favor on one of your characters your account becomes flagged for 32 point builds from then on.

mod 9 comes out soon and they are adding a little for pvp, you will be able to challenge other players to duels just walk up to the player make a challenge if he accepts you will be trasported to a brawl area where you can have at it, i believe you can have as many as 6 on 6 for the brawl but not until mod 9. oh and for those who dont like pvp you can disable challenges.

Although bear in mind that you have to get a character to 1750 total favor on each individual server before you can do 32 point builds on that given server. I think I said that awkardly, someone bail me out here say what I am trying to say in a less obtuse manner please.

If 28pt build:
Dwarven Fighter, Halfling Rogue, Warforged Barbarian, Drow Sorcerer

If 32pt build:
Dwarven Bard (Warchanter), Human Cleric, Human Ranger (Tempest), Warforged Wizard
