People have been trying to teach kids with education disguised as simple entertainment for years, but what's your favorite educational program from your childhood. I've got to go with Bill Nye the Science Guy and Histeria.

Though it's not meant to be a strictly educational program, neither is it meant strictly for kids, but Mythbusters is great isn't it.

You know what's really good?

QI.

Stephen Fry needs to be cloned so that every classroom has their own Fry.

He makes learning awesome.

(more info on the show for those who want it. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/QI )

Does House count?
What? I can now safely say this thread doesn't have Lupus, or does it?

I've been watching Carl Sagan's Cosmos. While a bit old now, it's still really good.

More good news: Dr. Neil deGrasse Tyson (host of NOVA Science) is involved in making a sequel to it. Dr. Tyson is probably the very best person for this project.

As a child I really liked the Magic School Bus. Maybe not the most scientifically accurate, but I think the spirit of exploration and discovery in science is more important for children than facts are.

Second!
Love QI. It's an excellent combination of factual program and ridiculous comedy. The dynamic between Stephen Frys 'Schoolmaster' and Alan Davies 'Schoolchild' is hilarious.
Plus you get to find out that all those 'facts' your parents told you are completely wrong.

Also:
The BBCs recent 'Wonders Of The Solar System' and 'Wonders of the Universe' hosted by Professor Brian Cox. He's got a very charming demeanour and never treats the audience as idiots. You get a lot of fascinating information in an easy to understand way.

I second your second point :D

The thing that always cracks me up about Brian Cox, especially in regards to the solar system, is that he's such a downer sometimes, but he does it with such a calming voice and facial expression.

"The sun will explode and destroy everything you've loved and ever will love, but it's ok, because my calming smile will make it all better."

Count Duckula.

I know from that program that if I ever try to raise a vampire duck, if I put Tomato Sauce in by accident instead of blood i'll have a vegetarian vampire duck....... with an irritating nanny.

You get an awesome intro though, so it's all good!

Love me some 80's keyboard action.

I've never thought of it that way, i'll have to rewatch the series just to count the amount of times he tells us how we're all going to die while smiling.
Also, did you happen to catch the most recent episode of QI? Brian Cox was there showing off his huge intelligence.

Are you kidding? How could I miss what was essentially Stephen Fry creaming his pants every time Cox opened that big brain of his.

Yeah, that's pretty much what it was, except with Ross Noble sat opposite looking daft (well, dafter than usual)
It's up on the iPlayer, including the super-duper XL version. Brian Cox does bogart the show a bit, but then he's Brian Cox, he's allowed.
I'm glad he stopped being the Keyboard player for D:Ream though.
