...can't think of an actual answer to OP. I'm sure there's been some I've enjoyed because I remember being amazed by them, but I can't remember which. Not the best sign.

Haha, true. Although I don't think they would have given Slippy that skill unless they realized he was pretty pointless as a character otherwise. Besides, you can't have everyone be likable. You gotta have one annoying person to make you like the main character more. When you think about it, without Slippy, you probably wouldn't like old 1 dimensional Fox as much.

Okay, I'm going to put Alyx here as a placeholder, but it really bugs me, all the same. There are escort missions that I'm really quite fond of, I just can't remember any at the moment. Senility, I suppose.

There was this four panel comic I saw some time ago. It had Slippy (thanks for the memory correction ^_^) asking for help. The second panel showed Slippy shot out of the sky. Third panel showed the end level animation of only three fighters flying in formation.

Last panel was Fox with a troll face.

But I digress... Escorting Natalya in Destroy All Humans 2 is alright, as she is good to look at and is a Russian super agent capable of defending herself. So yeah, that one is better than most. Still don't like 'em, though...

Thats World of Warcraft: Cataclysm. And Jail Break was the best escort quest I have ever done, back in vanilla. Marshal Windsor was a very capable caracther, knocking down the enemies with our help, and gave you a nice buff.

With game characters.... hmm... World of Warcraft has a couple 'tolerable' escort missions. Also has a couple absolutely miserable ones, but there are some within the game where the NPC is capable of taking care of themselves and fairly entertaining. Blizzard even subverts this at one point with an NPC escorting the player out of an area.

Escorting the Altmer from the tavern to the docks in Sodrith Mora for Skink-in-Tree-Shade in Morrowind. Why? Short and easy. (No violence, and not far at all)

Anyway, I agree. After countless years of escorting incompetent people through legions of bad guys, it was genuinely surprising to have a mission turn the tables on you.

Also, VIP modes in multiplayer are pretty sweet

Call of Duty had two good ones. First was the one were Sgt. Moody is pulling the wounded guy out. I liked it because it was short and had no consequence for failing. Second favorite was the Stalingrad mission, it was really more of a reverse escort mission, with you being the worthless person who doesn't have a weapon. That level still remains one of my favorite levels in gaming.
CoD: UO had the bomber mission which was sort of an escort mission and I liked that.
