I don't really think a show that went on for 9 seasons should be considered a failed TV show.

My vote, however, goes to a little show called the Four Kings.

Pushing Daisies was excellent. The best show I've ever seen by far. I wish SyFy would pick it up. It only ran for 1.75 seasons...the last few episodes weren't even aired!

Both Titus and Arrested Development got canceled after about 1.5 seasons.

Both were very funny and well written.

I miss them...

Carnivale. It was easily the most original TV I'd ever seen, and it left on a ridiculous cliff hanger after season 2 and.. Never came back.

The Sarah Conner Chronicles is a close second, but.. I'm not actually sure what's going on with it. o.o

I liked arrested development too, but I don't want it to start back up. It is good as is and I'll just enjoy the old episodes on hulu.

Firefly, I'm surprised there isn't more mention of it really.

And here's a rule I use for the success of shows: three or more seasons is no failure.

Arrested was on for 3 seasons, and it's got a movie coming out in the near future. Just puttin' it out there.

On topic,

12oz Mouse: What started out as a seemingly chaotic exercise in the old theory that "stoners will watch anything" quickly became a compelling mystery/suspense series, for those willing to look past the bizarre art and dialogue to find the plotline.

Batman Beyond: Not necessarily failed, in that it was carried on spiritually by JLA and Static Shock. Still, it remains one of my favorite standalone superhero cartoons to this day.

Roundhouse: Equal parts sketch comedy and music/dance exhibition, Nickelodeon's answer to Soul Train was incredibly entertaining, but might have been too hip for it's own good at the end of the day.

There was one called E-Ring that I really liked. It had promise, but it ultimately wasn't good enough.

I haven't seen many cancelled shows...

Oh, here's one: Star Trek! It's original run was a total fail. It only really got famous in its reruns.

Courage the Cowardly Dog, and all the shows made by Genndy Tartakovsky. Oh and Firefly, because that show was ultra bad ass.

Firefly. It had so much potential, too bad the show came on around the time when Fox was culling a lot of different shows.
