Diablo III, hands down. I was impressed.
I thought the end of Act 1 cinematic was very good:

The rest I felt were a bit contrived. But I remember at the end of Act 1 feeling the best I did about the game; and I liked it a lot more than the vocal online majority.

The combination of the music and the sheer chaos that breaks out.

Cant believe the threads come this far and no one has brought up the Borderlands 2 trailers.

I would also bring up Asura's Wrath, but the entire game is CGI, and its difficult to find videos of the desired scenes when everyone uploads playthroughs by the episode.

This is not a thread without a Final Fantasy X cinematic. That game's cinematics on a standard definition TV and a previous generation console put some current generation cinematics to shame.

The cinematic starts at 1:39.

Two awesome ones are the two at the beginning of Left 4 Dead 1 and 2;

Left 4 Dead 1

Left 4 Dead 2 (Not the opening, but still a badass trailer)

Also there's a certain cinematic in Gears 3 which rocks...

There are loads more that I can't think of right now as well. DAMMIT BRAIN!

I'm surprised nobody's posted this one, considering all the talk about it when it came out. I really like it

Probably my favourite cinematic in recent history was the cinematic intro for Wrath of the Lich King by Blizzard. One of their slower pieces but that's why I liked it, with the sombre narration of the lead figures long dead father and the mournful music in the background it just did a great job in setting the mood and setting up Arthas as the expansions future villain.

By contrast can't say I really liked any of the cinematic for Diablo 3. They were pretty to watch but they all just felt so damned... soulless. Diablo 2 had these amazingly creepy narrated cinematic that had a great gothic feel to them. Diablo 3's cinematic while by far better looking visually were also just so very hollywood, for lack of better words. Nothing jumped out at me as memorable.

Ah well, probably just being grumpy. Can't wait for Heart of the Swarm though!

Luxury zeppelin gets attacked by orcs flying biplanes! Steampunk awesomeness! Arcanum!

Nice!

This was the shizznit when it first released...

My favorite multiplayer shooter of all time that isn't Planetside. Just remember Treyarch, DICE did it first, and did it with Titans.
EDIT: Whoops fail. I got carried away with my love for BF2143, that is all in game, not CGI.

In Dead Rising 2 I dressed Chuck up in a Man-kini (Borat style, over the shoulder speedo) and purple lizard mask. Then I'd watch the cut-scenes waiting for either a great shot of Chuck's ass or for the mask to clip into another character making it look like I was eating their face.

Can't find it anywhere, but the ending of the PC/PS Clock Tower that ends with one of the girls dead over her desk with a pair of normal sized scissors in her neck. Then the door behind slowly opens to show ole' shang-man himself standing with shears poised like some predator about to make a kill.
That shit traumatized me as a child.

I cannot find a clip but meal gear solid 4 had a ton of them, the one stands out to me was ocelot on the river in london when he is standing off against a whole army.
all sorts of epic.

Oh come on!! I can't believe NOBODY has suggested the cutscenes from Halo Wars! Those cutscenes were absolutely stunning and were very well written and designed.

And while it isn't technically a game cutscene, it is an example of some absolutely phenomenal CGI. Check out Season 10 of Red vs Blue over on www.roosterteeth.com. Not plugging, but it is some seriously impressive stuff.
