As strange as this sounds, Boone from Fallout New Vegas.

Maybe it was the result of coming from Fallout 3 where the companions are glorified bots and finding FNV's deep, actual human beings of companions, but Boone really stuck to me. Here's this dude, in the Mojave Wasteland, much more badass than my character (seriously Boone, just let me have one kill before all enemies in sight have holes in their heads), following my character around first by a death wish and then by genuine friendship.

I could feel Boone's pain as he told my char. the story of how he had to kill his wife, the remorse and guilt he felt, and how little he had to live. And how good it felt to see this guy gain his redemption.

*pokes my username* obviously Kerrigan is one of them. I loved her from the instant I started playing starcraft. Her and Jim Raynor are in my top list for sure.

But all time female is Kerrigan or Lightning from Final Fantasy,

Male is ether Baird from Gears of War or Kaz Miller from Metal Gear Solid. TOO MANY TO PICK

Male - Luca Blight! (from Suikoden II)

Female - Female Shepard from the Mass Effect games

I like villains and antiheroes and to me those two go above and beyond the call of badass, and evil in the case of Luca Blight.

People are going to hate me for this one but probably Noble 6.

Of all the characters I have played as I feel like Noble 6 has just the right amount of things to say. He isn't honorable nor is he a blank slate. He isn't just some dumb soldier either. He's a Spartan who understands his purpose and what needs to be done.

It doesn't take a Mass Effect-level depth of a character (Though Garrus, Legion, Paarthurnax, Professor Sycamore and so much other people beg to differ) to win me over. It takes someone who knows who they are and uses that to accomplish their goals.

Noble 6's goal is his own purpose as a Spartan. Fight for humans until the last breath he draws. He still is human, underneath that helmet you can see emotion and understanding. He doesn't even say much either. You can tell he's generous, willing to look at the bright side of things, cautious as an assassin, even more so, he knows his own power.

Legion is also win:

Lee and Clementine from the Walking Dead were pretty awesome.

Also I really like pretty much all the companion characters that Bioware has come up with, but especially HK-47 from KOTOR and Tali from Mass Effect.

Favorite videogame characters? Let's see...

Andrew Ryan (Bioshock): "A man chooses. A slave obeys..."

GLaDOS (Portal): "Here come the test results: 'You are a horrible person.' That's what it says. A horrible person. We weren't even testing for that."

Cave Johnson (Portal 2): "Demand to see life's manager! Make life rue the day it thought it could give Cave Johnson lemons! Do you know who I am? I'm the man who's gonna burn your house down! With the lemons! I'm gonna get my engineers to invent a combustible lemon that burns your house down!"

Captain Walker (Spec Ops: The Line): "This is Captain Martin Walker, United States Army. Attempted evacuation of Dubai ended in complete failure. Survivors... one too many."

There are others, but these are the first that came to mind.

Plenty of great characters; great for different reasons. Off the top of my head-

Lee and Clementine. Showing genuine trust and companionship in a world gone mad.

Agent York. Eccentric movie junkie/skilled investigator.

April Ryan... because she is grounded firmly in reality.
Heh, or at least she tried to be.

I'm fond of Zoe as well, I couldn't help but find the whole theme of her story relatable.
