Bungie, Valve, and Double Fine.
All good to their respective communities. Well, Valve could release games a little more often, but when they do, it's often worth the wait.
Double Fine always has that Double Fine feel to their games, and it's great. Even when I played Brutal Legend, I didn't really like the gameplay, but the feel of the characters was still great.
And Bungie. I don't care, I love 'em. They made Halo, but passed it on to another company so they could make other games. None of which we've seen, but I have high hopes.

EDIT: And Nintendo, since that's what started my love of games, back with the Gameboy Color, Pokemon Gold, and The Legend of Zelda: Oracle of Seasons.

I guess my top 10 would be
1.Bethesda
2.Valve
3.Team Ico
4.Rockstar
5.Grasshopper Manufacture
6.Remedy
7.Twisted Pixel
8.Chair
9.Bioware
10.Rocksteady

Bioware used to be one of my highest but after taking a massive dump on dragon age I've lost alot of respect for them still looking foward to mass effect 3

Nintendo till sometime during the early 2000s. So many great games have come from Nintendo you just can't ignore them.

Valve is a close second though, the orange box is must buy for everyone.

Atlus
NIS
Vanillaware
Aksys
From Software
Bioware
Huh, only one of those is a western company. Aside from Atlus, the list isn't in any particular order.

Valve and Blizzard are some of my favorites. I haven't played a blizzard title recently, but everything I can remember has been a great, polished experience. I'm pretty sure only Diablo 3 can save the gaming industry. Valve puts a lot of care and attention to detail into their work, always focusing on a player's stream of consciousness during a game, which is something more people need to do. Unfortunately, Episode 3 is nowhere to be found, so that level of fostering obviously has its downside.

Well I used to have a top 3 in
Squaresoft/Square Enix
Konami
Capcom

but that got ripped up rather recently due to one of those companies being newly retarded and another becoming soley a publisher of good games and a maker of 3 great games a generation

I haven't made a new list but here are a bunch of devs I can imagine becoming my favourites in a few years to come

Level-5 (This one is kinda already there)
ThatGameCompany
Team ICO
Atlus
Platinum Games
Bethesda (If they start getting bugs out of games before release)
SEGA (if they keep on track making great games like Valkyria Chronicles, when they fix Sonic and when they give us a Skies of Arcadia 2)

On my ones to watch list I have Quantic Dream and Media Molecule, if QD's next game is great and when MM make a great non-LBP title they'll break through

CD Projekt, free DLC and they patched the game to remove DRM? Why aren't they listed more?

Otherwise, Valve, Bioware, Crytek and Obsidian.

Obsidian, Larian and CD Projekt. (I would have added Black Isle or Troika if they would have still been around)

Edit. Damn, forgot Wadjet Eye. Definitely Wadjet Eye.

While I loved Black Isle and Troika, I'm still trying to find the same feelings for Obsidian.
In the meantime, BioWare takes the cake.

And CD Projekt RED gets an honourable mention, because they're undisputedly the best developers in Poland, but their first game was, in hindsight, not that good and the second won't run on my laptop.

Also, R.I.P. GSC Game World. You will be missed.

Honestly, the only one I have consistently liked enough to remember their name for a situation like this is Valve.
So: Valve.

Others certainly do good work, like Bioware's Dragon Age and whoever did Medieval 2, and Infinity Ward back when they gave PC players dedicated servers, but I don't buy enough games to really say.

Mediaeval was made by Sony Computer Entertainments Cambridge Studio.
