this isnt my name said:
I sense this will be flooded with mass effect. Allthough it already is, I will be a hyocrite but

Im going to say reapers. for several reasons.

1. They remind me of the old ones/cthulu
2. LISTEN TO IT!

Shame they get ruined as time goes on./bitterness.
very true but when you think of any supernatural horror from any given piece of literature or media the fits the bill quite nicely when you think about it

SPESS MEHRENS! Yes, they count as a race. You think you and a space marine are the same thing? No. I love em because they're so hilariously manly and over-the-top.

Also from WH40K, the Necrons. Metal skeletons that shoot green lightning, whose only purpose is to end life in all its forms. I like how cleanly evil they are.

Oh, and the turians from Mass Effect are pretty awesome too. Visually they're just really interesting, plus they kick ass.

The Geth, Krogan and Turians from Mass Effect

Argonians from The Elder Scrolls

And the combine from Half Life 2 and it's episodes. Not the soldiers, but the straight up psychic worms.

Any lizard races, like Iksars from EQ1/EQ2, Trandoshans from the Star Wars, or Argonians from TES. I love games with lizard-like races, and have been my main rational in looking into some of these games (Iksars were why I ended up checking out EQ2). I just like the aesthetic above all else really.

Generally, I love beast races as a whole, and will always play one over any of the humanoid races. It's boring as sin to play as a human, elf, dwarf, gnome, or anything humanoid: playing as a beastman is really interesting and exotic.

I always liked the idea of the mechanical looking Modrons from Planescape: Torment
Modron

Not sure if it counts as a race, but Kabuto from Giants: Citizen Kabuto (the big blue monster in the picture).

Also, the Malkavian race from Vampire: The Masquerade are crazy fun to play as.

I'll also echo the popular opinion of all the races from Mass Effect, they're all really interesting and fleshed out, with my favourites being the elcor and the quarians.

Outside of video games, my favourite race has to be the Nac Mac Feegle from Terry Pratchett's the Discworld.

As mundane as it may sound... human. I generally always play human and the humans characters are the ones i tend to emphasise with the most; i believe that's because i tend to 'project' myself into that world, and as such i tend to make my avatar look and behave in a manner i would. (to that effect i actually have real trouble consciously choosing morally 'wrong' decisions in games)

But regarding favourite races that act as NPCs and the like? Well, self-aware AI has always fascinated me. Especially ones that develop their own culture, so i always get giddy over the Geth. Shodan is another example of awesome AI gone sentient, if a little bit megalomaniacal.

I love the zerg for their wildly alien design. I'd like to see more viscious bloodthirsty aliens like that from time to time in between all our civilised Mass Effect-esque alien cultures.

Anything undead. Characters that are some kind of spirits, shades or otherworldly beings are also fascinating to me as well. That goes for anything supernatural, so that extends to non-undead but still cursed creatures, like werewolves, vampires, thralls, and so on.

I quite liked the Argonians for their uniquely distinctive design.

Zoras for me. Zora Link in Majora's Mask was epic, and I loved the vibe their people gave off. They weren't really that interesting in Twilight Princess, and maybe it was just my childish imagination at the time of OoT and MM, but I thought they were epic.

Most elves from RPGs and the Zerg from Starcraft 2 & Brood wars. I think the eleves are cool because they're typicaly magic and usally wise and elegant.
I just really like the way the Zerg look. I really like most alien cultures that are supposed to infect/control a host. I've just always found the was the Zerg act in a hive intresting.

Whichever race the men in Yakuza are. They look human, but I'm pretty sure no human can break marble slabs with their face.

OT:
Hanar and Asari. Tentacle monster and all-girl bisexual race capable of mating with everyone. Nothing can go wrong here.

I also like the Tau.

I always though it was weird that in stealth games black players would not get any kind of bonus. I mean darker skin would aid stealth at night assuming no access to face paints. I usually make my stealth characters black (or get a face paint mod) because of this.

The Alien races in Halo will always be my favourite, and I always loved the character model for the elites. Also, I know it's not really a game race, but Namekians from the Dragonball universe are probably my favourite race of any franchise. And Piccolo from DBZ Budokai 3 looked pretty awesome cell shaded.

Halflings. I like the whole "stealthy, high dexterity" concept. Though I would prefer to play them in a Shadowrun style game, with guns.

The Turians from Mass Effect. It's hard not to like those honorable, workaholic raptor-like aliens. Oh, and the Salarians. They never cease to amuse me.

I also have a big soft spot for Khajiit from Oblivion as they just look freaking adorable when they look worried xD I like Krogan from Mass Effect aswell, they are really 'cute' for some reason. I blame thier toes in stripy armour....
