For me, it's the PC game Might and Magic VII: For Blood and Honor. Not Heroes of Might and Magic. Every time I mention the game, people always go "OH! Heroes of Might and Magic?" NO! That is not what I mean!

You know you want to be a part of this adventure...

It was single player, but you got to create 4 different unique characters to make up your party.

It also had a plot:
"At the end of Might and Magic III, the eight main characters piloted a seedship named "the Lincoln" in pursuit of the Guardians Corak and Sheltem. However, rather than landing on the world of Xeen as the Guardians did, they drifted off-course and eventually crash-landed in the seas on the distant planet of Enroth. After an ensuing disagreement, the eight characters split up into two groups - one "good" and one "evil" - and begin to explore the nearby continent of Antagarich, each with their own agenda."

I really enjoyed the prequel, Might and Magic: The Mandate of Heaven, and the sequel, Day of the Destroyer

In short, this series cemented my love of 3DO and contributed heavily to my affinity for gaming as a whole.

What's a favorite game of yours that doesn't get enough respect?

To the Moon.

Might be the the best, most emotional storyline I've ever come across in a game.

Other than my girlfriend, I can't think offhand of a single person that's played it, and it took half a year of constant badgering for me to even get her to break down and give it a try (she loved it, cried like a baby).

Possibly because it was a tiny indie game, possibly because the graphics are oh-so mid 1980's.

But it's fucking brilliant.

By the way, I totally played that game. Many of the Might and Magics, in fact. They were good fun, but I always found them ludicrously Monty Haul.

I used to love a game called Wrath Unleashed. It had it for the PS2 and no one I used to know liked to play that game with me. I did find one person, but we only played it together a few times. Sad too, because it was made to be played with real friends.

Well my friends that actually play games all seem to be the CoD/Battlefield/Fifa/Pro Evo type of gamer so there's tons of games I've played over the years that they've never heard of

For example I'm currently playing(and enjoying)Deus Ex:Human Revolution.Only one of my friends has even heard of it and he bought it,played it for a few hours and then traded it in because it was "fucking boring"(his exact words)

Baldurs gate. They had never even heard of it until I mentioned it.

I think everyone should play this absolute gem of a game.

Phantasy Star Online (Gamecube), Metal Arms and Phantom Crash. They weren't exactly into rpg at that time while the other two were sort of an niche games.

There is a lot of them. My friends and I have similar tastes in games, but my hobby started a lot earlier than most of theirs. They are not the type of people that like to play retro games if they never played the game as a kid.

I think I was a lot more adventurous about games as a kid. I'd pick up whatever looked cool because I didn't really know what was out there or what I liked. Now I almost only buy games that I'm sure I will enjoy, or because they are hiiiighly recommended by others.

Part of me worries about all the cool, random stuff I'm missing out on because I don't give it a chance.

On the other hand, I did have a lot more time to waste as a kid...

I have friends with similar (great) taste in games, and if they don't have a game I pester them until they get it. But ... maybe Stronghold? Or Knights of Honor. Reasonably old / obscure RTS games that I adore, but which go mostly unnoticed by people not obsessed by the genre.

Plus I think many of us are a bit spoiled at this point. We have much higher expectations for games than we did decades ago. I think it would be a lot harder to enjoy a mediocre new game now than it would have been to play a truly bad game 20 years ago. Plus, back then people rented games a lot where as now a large majority of gamers own the games they play which implies they are throwing down a lot of cash and expect the game to be up to snuff. If the game doesn't deliver than you're just left with a bad taste in your mouth and no one seems to want to take that risk anymore.

This is quickly becoming a pity party about AAA game development isn't it? I will silence myself before I get rolling :X

YES! Yes, you described perfectly how I feel about the game. Including how other people go "Oh, Heroes?". Back in the day that caused quite some amusement

Me: So yeah, Might and Magic 7.
Others: Oh there is a 7? I must have missed some - 3 [or 4] was the last I played.
(alternatively)
Others: No, dude you're counting that wrong [insert detailed explanation how Heroes Chronicles aren't new releases and how I'm stupid to think of them as such]

After explaining to people what M&M actually was I've seen puzzled looks and people who didn't actually believe me but didn't want to say it. Yeah, you're playing Heroes in 3D and it's first person, sure.

And by the way, I'm just playing that, I mean, I literally saved my game and exited five minutes ago. I just de-populated the Pit and de-titanized the Titan's Stronghold in Avlee and I'm just about to go dragon hunting in Eofol! >:)

So yes, that would be my pick for a game none of my friends have played.

You're the first person I've encountered to share this experience with, so it made the whole post worth it for me.

Something I particularly liked about MM7 was the Golem. If you completed the quest with the "evil" head, you can still construct him and make him live in your house, but he'll attack you every time you go home! This happened to me on my first successful playthrough, and I found it hilarious. At first I thought it was a glitch, but then I realized I had made a mistake myself. I felt that the option to finish the quest, but in an improper way, contributed to the realism of the game. It's more life-like to say that sometimes you mess up the jobs you do, rather than either not doing them or doing them perfectly each time.

He peddles it to everyone because it's his favourite game.
It's his favourite game because it's awesome.
Don't like it? Then go away.
He also mentions it in this here topic because although it's his favourite game, none of his friends have played it.
So you see, this person is doing nothing wrong and you should go away, unless you have your own contribution to the thread, which I notice you haven't shared.

OT: Mine is Planescape: Torment. It simply boggles the mind. Some of those guys would dig it so much but they simply won't touch it. It just doesn't happen.
