IGN recently released it's list of top gaming moments of 2010. That inspired me to make this topic.
You can see that here http://xbox360.ign.com/articles/113/1139594p1.html

What was everyone else's favorite gaming moment(s) of the year?
Also, if you feel like you can pick it out, what's your favorite gaming moment of all time?

My favorite moment of the year was going through the Omega 4 Relay in Mass Effect 2.

My favorite moment of all time was also my most hilarious moment. In Oblivion, I had a character who wore various items that made him reflect normal and spell damage 100%. The only thing that could hurt him were, daedric, silver, enchanted weapons, and bows. I was doing the final quest and I ran by Dagon but he stomped on me. His attack fully bounced back on him and he MELTED! I just sat there laughing. The cut-scene after still showed him fighting Akatosh as if nothing had happened.

My favorite moment of the year was beating the end boss of Mass Effect 2 on insanity, and listening to the epic background music kick in.

My favorite gaming moment of all time was beating the thousand-man challenge in Super Smash Bros Melee

Year: The climax to Mass Effect 2. It was exciting, well planned, and the whole battle and the planning therein was just plain fun.
That, or the very end of Halo: Reach. The rest of the game was mediocre, but that last few minutes was an amazing experience.

All time: The first time I beat Super Mario World 2: Yoshi's Island. It wasn't much, but when I was 8 years old, it was a huge sense of accomplishment.

My favorite gaming moment of the year was playing through and getting all four endings to NIER. It was an amazing game that managed to completely surprise me a few times.

The ending to Red Dead Redemption. There were other great things during the year, but it just stands out in my mind.

Deadly Premonition. Enter a wonderful Detective from a big city with his mysterious friend Zach. Meet a zany cast of locals who range from laughably horrible to quirky to intriguing) Follow a serial killer through the small town of Greenvale. Discover some of the strangest and most interesting clues I have ever seen (FK in the coffee, red seeds, etc.). That lead to some surprisingly powerful dramatic moments. And then fuck all that up with an ending that is everything the entire game was and several things you could never guess would happen.

Also, working windshield wipers AND blinkers.

I certainly wouldn't consider it the game of the year. But the fact that a budget title (especially a budget title at the bottom end of budget) could be so impressive made the moments that much better.

My vote also goes to the Suicide Mission in Mass Effect 2.

Red Dead's border crossing is a close second.

I feel sad, I haven't played a single game on that list except for Bad Company 2... it's been an extremely sparse year for me in gaming, with less than half a dozen new games bought in total. I do agree with the writer though in terms of BC2, destructible environments in a co-op environment like that is a recipe for all sorts of awesome scenario to unfold!

But anyway... well counting only games released this year, I'd say Mass Effect 2. Just Mass Effect 2, all of it pretty much, such a cinematic experience that despite being a wee bit lackluster in the story and rpg elements, I just didn't care. Such a memorable experience. The ending was a bit anti-climactic, especially compared to the first games absolutely mind-blowing finale, but as an overall experience Mass Effect 2 just excelled in every way.

And Starcraft 2, getting all the achievements for the final mission. Playing through the singleplayer campaign on normal for the first time was pretty damn fun, but playing through it again on hard getting all the achievements, that was both incredibly frustrating at times as well as ridiculously satisfying. And that last mission exemplifies that! On normal it was too easy, for a 'survival' style mission where you're just supposed to stay alive, I never felt particularly threatened. But on hard and trying to get the achievements, which makes it harder, there was a proper sense of just barely clinging to survival in a hostile environment, with me literally counting the seconds till the missions end and desperately trying to just. stay. alive.

As for all time? No clue! I'd have to think about that!

This, by far. Best gaming moment of this generation, in my opinion. You can see me ranting about it here:

Of this year Halo: Reach, hands down.

Spartans never die, they only go MIA.

Of all time, I dont know and will never know since the future is unknowable which makes future games an unknown unknown instead of a known unknown which kinda limits the knowing of the unknown future and it'll just be a cluster of unknowns so if I did choose something and it turned out I change my all time favorite without thinking about the unknown then I just screw myself cause the absence of evidence is not the evidence of absence because an unknown unknown is now a known unknown or even a unknown known.
