The cat companion from Monster Hunter. They not only aid you in battle but if you get pissed off at them you can kick them. Battle aid and opportunity to show them some discipline, now thats an sidekick.

I would say Zoey from L4D. She never gets incapped and always has the second most kills and the most saves.
Or that rock golem from Primal. I don't know why I consider him to be the best though.
